PEACOCK STORYLINES...
GETCHA BROOMS OUT: Upper Iowa returned home for the first time in 2017 last weekend, and picked up their first sweep of the calendar year in the process. The Peacocks topped the defending national champion Augustana Vikings 95-91 behind a
Carson Parker three-pointer with 0.5 seconds remaining, and then used solid defense and timely shooting to defeat the Wildcats 77-71 on Saturday to earn the sweep. UIU is now on a three-game winning streak, and has won four consecutive home games.
Â
REGIONAL RANKINGS: The Peacocks are currently ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division II Central Region Poll Sponsored by D2SIDA. Five NSIC schools are ranked in the top 10 in the region, including MSU Moorhead (3), Southwest Minnesota State (4), Augustana (6), and Northern State (10).
Â
DOWN TO THE WIRE: Upper Iowa has played in close games all season long, with 11 of their 20 games being decided by 10 points or less. UIU is 9-2 in such games, and is 7-1 when the game is decided by five points or less. Both games last weekend came down to the wire, with UIU picking up four and five-point wins, respectively, against Augustana and Wayne State.
Â
2,017 INÂ 2017: This season marks the 101st in Peacock men's basketball history. Upper Iowa will play in its 2,017th game all-time on Friday night against the University of Mary. UIU has 915 wins as a program, a .454 winning percentage.
Â
100 NSIC WINS: Upper Iowa is two wins away from earning its 100th win all-time in the Northern Sun Conference. UIU joined the league in 2006, after two years as a provisional institution in NCAA Division II. The Peacocks are 11-3 this season in the league, which remains their best record through 14 games since becoming a member of the NSIC.
Â
