Box Scores: vs. Seminole State || vs. East CentralThe Peacock women's tennis team opened their run in Oklahoma with a pair of losses to Seminole State College and East Central University by scores of 7-2 in both contests. The losses drop UIU's record to 7-3 overall this spring.
Against the Trojans of SSC on Monday, the Peacocks earned a win in doubles in the #3 match when
Kelly Jachymowski and
Anna Okolot defeated Zahra Finnigan and Sydney Brummett 8-4. The home team took the other two doubles bouts and five of the singles matches. UIU's lone win in singles came at #2 where
Isabella Sella defeated Miranda Rodriguez 6-4, 7-5. Yulia Prokophyshyn was the only player to force her opponent to a third set, but lost 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at #6 singles.
On Tuesday, Upper iowa took on the Tigers of ECU. Although the final score was 7-2 in favor of East Central, the Peacocks were very much in the hunt for the victory.
Saki Kawabata lost a tiebreaker 10-7 to lose the #1 singles match and Sella lost 10-8 in a tiebreaker set at #2 singles. Jachymowski was the only Peacock to get a tiebreaker set to go her way, 10-7, and post the only win in singles at #4. The doubles matches at #1 and #3 also were very close and needed extra play to decide. Kawabata and Sella teamed up for a 9-7 win at #1, while Jachymowski and Okolot lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at #3.
Upper Iowa continues their play in Oklahoma with three more duals against Cameron University on Wednesday, the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday and Southern Nazarene University on Saturday before returning to Fayette.
