The Peacock tennis team shutout the Bulldogs on the hardcourts in Winona, Minn. on Saturday. Upper Iowa won all three double matches but were pushed by Minnesota Duluth. UIU controlled the singles matches though dropping only one set to UMD. With the win, the Peacocks improve to 6-1 on the season and remain undefeated in Northern Sun Conference play at 5-0.
Saki Kawabata and
Kelly Jachymowski tagged up for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles, while
Jemina Linn Sorman and
Isabella Sella outlasted Jillian Klaasen and Kelsey Zetah for a 9-7 victory at #2 doubles.
Anna Okolot and
Yulia Prokopyshyn paired at #3 doubles and scored an 8-5 win.
In singles play, Kawabata won her match by injury default at #1, while Sella controlled the #2 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Sorman won her first set at #3 6-0, but Kaitlin Winnatka rallied in set two to take it 6-4 and force a tiebreaker. Sorman closed out the win with a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker. Jachymowski and Okolot put together strong showings at #4 and #5 singles, and Prokopyshyn rounded out the shutout with a 7-5, 6-0 win at #6.
Breanna Heichert defeated Mikayla Gottwalt 8-6 in an exhibition match for both teams.
The Peacocks will remain in Winona, Minn. for another NSIC dual on Sunday. Upper Iowa will face the Huskies of St. Cloud State University at 9 a.m.
