The Peacock women's tennis team will start the conference season with a pair of matches at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. Upper Iowa begins the weekend against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles on Friday, Feb. 12, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a match with the Bemidji State Beavers on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
Last weekend, UIU opened the spring with a victory against the University of Illinois-Springfield thanks to a sweep of the singles matches. Prior to claiming all six singles matches, the Peacocks won two of the three doubles bouts for an 8-1 win over the Prairie Stars on Saturday. Then on Sunday, the Peacocks fell in a tight battle with the Western Illinois Leathernecks, 5-2, in Malcomb, Ill. The Peacocks swept in doubles, but fell in five of the six singles matches. Three of the five singles losses, however, went to three sets.
Upper Iowa is undefeated against UMC and BSU since moving up to NCAA Division II. When UIU met these two opponents last year, the Peacocks came away with a pair of 9-0 victories.Â
The Golden Eagles (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) opened their spring season last weekend with a loss to the Beavers, 7-2, on Saturday, Feb. 6. Bemidji State (2-0, 2-0 NSIC) then added another victory to their tally with a 7-2 win over Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, Feb. 7.
