in Missouri, starting with Rockhurst University on Friday, September 4. The Peacocks then take on William Jewell College on Sunday, September 6. Since moving to NCAA Division II, UIU is 0-2 against Rockhurst, but will be playing William Jewell for the first time.
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER
1 PEACOCKS COMING BACK: Upper Iowa returns six players who started 60% or more of their games in 2014, including All-Central Region and All-NSIC
First Team member Madie Edwards and All-NSIC Third Team honoree Kaitlyn Emanuel. In addition to those six, there are five more players who played in 11 or more of the 19 games, giving UIU a solid core of players with experience heading into the 2015 season. 2 NEWCOMERS: The 2015 roster features seven players who can all make an immediate impact on the team, giving head coach
Brian Diaz extra depth heading into the season.
Jordyn Ostrowski and
Laura Murray will help the Peacocks at forward,
Lia Passini and
Kelsey Hall will give UIU options in the midfield and
Christiana Atteberry,
Erin Svensson and
Mayte Van Hees add depth for Upper Iowa in the backline.
3 CONTINUED SUCCESS: The Peacocks finished the 2014 regular season with an 11-7-1 overall record and a 10-4-1 mark in the NSIC. UIU finished tied for third in the conference, marking the third consecutive year that Upper Iowa had a top-three NSIC finish. The Peacocks also reached the NSIC/US Bank Tournament semifinals for the fourth straight year.
4 ROCKHURST RE-DO: UIU opened last season at home against Rockhurst, falling to the Hawks 1-0. Rockhurst got on the board late in the first half and outshot Upper Iowa 22-9 on the game. Emanuel made seven saves on the day,
Aimee Wronski and
Lauren Rohrmeier led the Peacocks with three shots each.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTSvs. ROCKHURST: The Hawks finished in second place in the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. Rockhurst is coming off a 14-2-3 record in 2014. Since 1999, the Hawks have made 10 GLVC Championship Tournament appearances and most recently played in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2011-13, while having appeared in four of the last seven NCAA Tournaments.
vs. WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals have one game before taking on the Peacocks, opening the season at home on Sept. 4 against Nebraska-Kearney. William Jewell was selected to finish 11th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing the 2014 season at 6-8-3 overall and 5-8-2 in conference play.
