THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Upper Iowa women's soccer team (0-1-1) hopes to pick up their first win of the 2015 campaign in a weekend featuring just one game. The Peacocks host Fort Hays State on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. UIU has not played Fort Hays State since moving to NCAA Division II. It will be the final non-conference game of the season as NSIC play begins on Monday when the Peacocks host the Warriors of Winona State.

LAST WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Peacocks tied their opener against Rockhurst, 1-1, despite being outshot in the game 28-6. UIU then dropped a game at William Jewell 2-1.

KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

1       COOL AND COLLECTED:
The Peacocks won't panic at their 0-1-1 start. UIU started the 2014 season 0-4 before rattling off a ten-game unbeaten streak and heading to their fourth straight NSIC/US Bank Tournament semi-finals.

2      MAGNIFICENT MADIE: First Team All-Region and All-NSIC pick from 2014, Madie Edwards got her first goal of the 2015 season in the second half of the loss against William Jewell. In each of the last two seasons, the midfielder has scored 10 goals and added five assists.

3       MAGGIE'S MARK: After losing Aimee Wronski to graduation, the forward position for Upper Iowa was up for grabs. Junior Maggie Olson has made her claim to take over the role, scoring a goal in the 1-1 tie with Rockhurst and assisting on the Edwards goal against William Jewell. Olson leads the team with three points after two games.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT

vs. FORT HAYS STATE: The Tigers are 1-1 after a pair of 1-0 decisions in their first two matches, having defeated Southwest Minnesota State and falling to Minot State. FHSU was picked fourth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing the 2014 season with a 13-5-2 overall record and an 8-2-2 mark in the MIAA. The eight wins in conference play was the most by the program in their four-year history and earned the Tigers a No. 3 seed in the MIAA tournament.
