The third NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Central Region rankings were announced and the NSIC had two teams appearing in the top nine. Augustana moved up a spot to sixth in the region while Upper Iowa dropped a spot to ninth. MSU Moorhead, which was ninth last week, dropped out of this week's ranking. Last week marked the first appearance in the rankings for Upper Iowa since the 2011 season when they just missed out on their second straight berth into the NCAA postseason.
Upper Iowa has earned one regional bid in program history. The selection came in 2010 when they were one of three NSIC schools to earn the bid along with Augustana College and St. Cloud State University. The Peacocks lost to the Vikings in the first round of the regional.
The NCAA Central Region is comprised of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC). The post season tournament winner from each conference receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament on May 2-5 and will be joined by the next four highest ranked team in the final rankings.
Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the final site. The NCAA women's tennis selections will be announced on Tuesday, April 28, at 7 p.m. (CT) at
www.NCAA.com.
The Peacocks will take their 13-5 overall record and 10-1 mark in the Northern Sun into the eight-team
2015 NSIC/US Bank Women's Tennis Tournament, which will take place on Apr. 25-26, at Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn. The Peacocks are the #2 seed after claiming runner up honors in the NSIC Tennis regular season. UIU will take on the University of Mary, the #7 seed, at 9 a.m. on Saturday looking to move into the semifinals on Sunday morning.
