THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL

Upper Iowa finishes the regular season this week with three pivotal doubleheaders as UIU makes a final push in the NSIC standings. The Peacocks wrap up a 10-game road trip this week when they head to Wayne, Neb. on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Wayne State Wildcats. UIU then returns home for the final weekend of the regular season for a pair of doubleheaders against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. The weekend sets will have a little more meaning for the Peacocks as Saturday will be a Strike Out Cancer game and Sunday is Senior Day, honoring Upper Iowa's three seniors this season: Shelby Crist, Katie Mnichowicz and Whitney Williams.

KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

1       FLOODING THE RECORD BOOK:
Upper Iowa is in the midst of one of the greatest individual offensive seasons in school history from first baseman and pitcher Jacqueline Flood. Flood broke the single-season record for RBI's with 44 last week and now holds the career record for RBI's with 102. Flood is also hitting .433 for the season, which is the third best mark all-time, and just four hits away from the single-season hits mark. Her 38 runs are three away from the Upper Iowa record in a season and her 7 home runs are tied for seventh in UIU single-season history.

2       SCORING AT A PREMIUM:  The Peacocks scored in double digits three times last week and scored eight in another game. UIU averaged seven runs per game over the past four double headers, almost three runs more per game than its season average of 4.08 runs per game over the first 37 games of the year.

3      SENIOR SEND OFF: UIU will give a final farewell to three everyday players over the past few years this weekend on Senior Day. Katie Mnichowicz and Whitney Williams will leave as number one and two all-time in games played at Upper Iowa, while Shelby Crist has been a constant behind the plate for Peacocks, playing in all 93 games during her time at UIU, making 91 starts.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

vs. WAYNE STATE: The Wildcats are 29-17 so far this season with a 14-10 record in NSIC play, tied for fifth in the standings with UIU. WSU has been hot lately, winning seven of its last ten, including three in a row. Wayne State features the reigning NSIC Player of the Week, Kaiti Williams, who is coming off a week where she posted a team-high .500 average last week going 14 for 28 at the plate with three doubles, one triple, three homers and eight RBI's.

vs. SIOUX FALLS: The Cougars are 26-18 overall and just behind UIU at 12-12 in conference. USF has picked up its play of late, winning four in a row and six of its last seven to get back to .500 in conference play. Sioux Falls is led by freshman pitcher Breanna Black, who is 14-9 on the year with a 2.89 ERA.

vs. SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE: The Mustangs are 25-21 this season and tied with the Peacocks in the NSIC standings at 14-10. SMSU has rallied late in the season to move up the conference standings, winning seven of its last ten games. Southwest Minnesota State is led by senior Katelyn Kalkman, hitting a team-high .349 with 51 hits and 32 runs scored.
