The Peacock tennis team remained undefeated in the Northern Sun Conference and pushed their NSIC record to 7-0 with a dominating 8-1 victory at Winona State University. Upper Iowa picked up the big win after a three week break from the competitive courts. UIU claimed all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.
In doubles,
Saki Kawabata paired with
Iris Verweij for an 8-4 win at #1 doubles, while
Yamit Vodavoz and
Victoria Kulbokas claimed an 8-5 win and
Kelly Jachymowski and
Anna Okolot posted an 8-3 victory to sweep the doubles segment.
Upper Iowa controlled the top three singles matches thanks to wins by Verweij, Kawabata and Vodavoz. Winona State did get their lone win at #4 singles when Katie Scruggs defeated Okolot. Okolot rallied to almost take the match after dropping the first set 6-0 as she won the second set 7-5, but dropped the tiebreaker 11-9. Kulbokas and Jachymowski dominated the singles play at fifth and sixth singles to close out the dual.
Upper Iowa will face Drake University on Sunday, Mar. 22, in Des Moines.
