The Peacock women's tennis team wrapped up the weekend in Waterloo, Iowa against another NCAA Division I, in-state rival in the University Northern Iowa. The Peacocks picked up a win in out of their No. 1 doubles tandem, as well as in a singles match, but dropped the match to the Panthers 6-1.

The pair of Saki Kawabata and Iris Verweij picked up a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Elvira Lopez and Jieke Shroobent. At No. 6 singles, Kelly Jachymowski grabbed a win as she dropped the first set 6-3, but rallied to win the second set by the same score. The sophomore then prevailed in the tiebreaker, 10-5, at No. 6 singles.

Following the match, Head Coach Joey J. Barnes said,"I am very happy about this weekend. I am also disappointed that we couldn't come up with a win. Both Creighton and UNI are very competitive teams. We play this type of schedule to get teams that will challenge us as well as make us Match Tough; these types of matches are performance measures for us. With the new formats to tennis matches at the NCAA DI level which include "No-Ad" and 6 games doubles, we managed to show that we are competitive as well. I know the team is saddened and disappointed in the results, butI am very proud of them. They are awesome ladies to work with individually and an outstanding team to coach. This weekend's performance is great forour future development."

Upper Iowa starts conference matches next weekend when they return to the court. The Peacocks will take on Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. and Bemidji State on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 9 a.m. Both matches will take place in Winona, Minn.
