For the second straight night, the Upper Iowa wrestling team posted a dominating performance in Dorman Gymnasium. The Peacocks defeated the Wolves of Northern State University 48-3 winning nine of the ten matches including four by fall and three by forfeit. With the win, UIU improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Sun Conference.
The dual began at 141 pounds with UIU's
Jordan Roths earning a win by fall midway through the third period (5:57) after taking a commanding 12-0 lead.
Trevor Duke followed the win with a gutty 5-3 decision at 149 pounds and
Jordan Rinken (#6 NWCA) controlled a 7-0 decision at 157 pounds to push UIU's lead to 12-0.
After a short media break,
Colbey Vance (165) and
Blake Sorensen (184, #6 NWCA) surrounded a win by forfeit at 174 pounds with a pair of first period pins. The three straight big wins extended UIU's lead to 30-0.
Northern State's Joe Gomez earned the win at 197 pounds as he controlled the pace of the bout over UIU's
Ricky Briggs. Gomez scored a pair of takedowns, an escape and a ride time point for his 6-2 win.
Logan Hopp put UIU back into the win column with a first period (2:20) win by fall after a pair of takedowns. Two more forfeits (125 & 133) followed the final competitive match and sent the final score at 48-3.
Upper Iowa will head to Marshall, Minn. to face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30. The team will then return to Fayette for an afternoon (2 p.m.) dual against Minot State University on Sunday, Feb. 1.
