Upper Iowa 0 - Drake 9

The Upper Iowa women's tennis team's two-match win streak came to an abrupt halt on Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa. The Peacocks dropped all nine points to Division-I opponent Drake University in non-conference play. The 9-0 defeat drops UIU to 11-9 overall this season. 

The Bulldogs were strong from start to finish taking care of business in all three doubles matches. Drake earned a pair of 8-4 victories at #1 and #2 while also taking the default point at #3. Upper Iowa was forced to look to singles play for a response, but the Peacocks were swept there too. 

UIU dropped all six matches in singles play despite a few close results. Iris Verweij's matchup at #2 singles resulted in a loss, but the freshman from the Netherlands earned the most points for her team. She dropped the first game 6-2 and the second 6-1. Saki Kawabata and Victoria Kulbokas also earned points for the visitors, but neither could pull off the upset. 

UIU will now look ahead to two more non-conference matches next weekend.

Upper Iowa will look to bounce back from Saturday's loss next weekend as the team prepares for two more non-conference matches. On Saturday, the Peacocks will face Ashford University of Iowa before taking on Augustana College of Illinois on Sunday. Both games will be held in Waterloo, Iowa.
