Recap

Upper Iowa 6  – Minnesota Duluth 3

Just past the mid-way point of the Northern Sun season, the Upper Iowa women's tennis team accomplished something they haven't all season – a weekend sweep in NSIC play. With a 7-2 win over Bemidji State yesterday, the Peacocks entered Sunday's matchup with Minnesota Duluth with high hopes. The Peacocks used two wins in doubles play and four wins in singles competition to pull off the 6-3 victory and secure the sweep.

At # 1 doubles, Iris Verweij and Saki Kawabata were impressive. The duo earned a flawless 8-0 victory over Kara Saemann and Delany Dobbs of UMD. Then at #2 doubles, Victoria Kulbokas and Kelly Jachymowski pulled out the closely contested 8-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

UMD swiped the final victory at #3 doubles, but the Peacocks had the momentum heading into singles competition. Verweij picked up a pair of 6-0 victories at #1, while Kawabata defeated Drew DeCorsey of UMD, 6-2 and 6-1. Kulbokas kept up the heat at # 3 by picking up a 6-2 win in the first set, then finishing her opponent off in the second set, 6-0. UIU then sealed the win as Jachymowski retired her opponent with a pair of 6-1 victories.

The 6-3 victory gives the Peacocks a 4-2 record in NSIC play – the team's best start since the 2011-12 season.
