Box Score The Peacocks ran their win streak to six with a 2-0 victory over the Northern State Wolves. UIU jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first half and was able to cruise to victory and jump to fourth place in the NSIC conference standings.
With the sixth straight win, UIU bested their pair of five-game win streaks from last year.
Aimee Wronski put the Peacocks on the board at the 23:46 mark of the first half.
Brenna Gray served the ball in from the right side and
Corinne Wronski headed the ball to her sister, who put it past the Northern State goalkeeper from 12 yards out. It was Aimee's fourth goal of the year and fourth in six games.
Seventeen minutes later, UIU pushed the lead to two when
Lauren Sharp served a ball into the box and
Maggie Olson found the ball and scored her first goal of the year.
The first half ended with the Peacocks up 2-0, outshooting the Wolves 9-0.
"We came out and created early scoring opportunities," said Head Coach
Brian Diaz. "But Northern State settled in and had a good defensive game plan against us. Fortunately we were able to break through twice."
The second half started with a pair of shots by both teams, but neither team could put one in the back of the net.
The best chance for the Wolves came on Northern State's last shot of the match in the game's 78
th minute, when sophomore forward Kay Hernandez sent a shot on goal, but it caromed off the crossbar and out to keep the score at 2-0, Peacocks.
UIU took the last four shots of the game, continuing to put pressure on the Wolves defense, but couldn't put another one in the back of the net, ending the game at 2-0.
Aimee Wronski led Upper Iowa with seven shots, four on goal. Corinne Wronski and
Madie Edwards talled two shots each and a host of Peacocks each had one shot, as UIU outshot the Wolves 17-4.
Kaitlyn Emanuel wasn't require to make a save on Northern State's four shots, earning her fourth shutout of the season.
"Defensively we limited their opportunities," said Diaz. "We've put in work over the last couple weeks about limiting opponents shots, and we did that today."
"I'm pleased that we found a way to win on the road, especially against a team that was as organized as Northern State was," said Diaz. "I'm happy we were able to break through and walk away with three points."
The Peacocks will play next at MSU Moorhead tomorrow at 1 p.m.
