The Peacock tennis team wrapped up their first weekend of competition this spring with a 2-2 record.  After picking up an 8-1 victory over Minnesota, Crookston in the team’s opener on Friday, Upper Iowa lost at St. Thomas, 5-0, but bounced back with a 6-3 decision over MSU Moorhead on Saturday.  UIU closed the weekend with a 6-3 loss to Northern State on Sunday afternoon in Owatonna, Minn.
 
A brief recap of each dual as well as results can be found below.  The Peacocks will head to Sioux Falls, S.D. in a couple of weekends to continue their NSIC schedule with duals against Augustana and Sioux Falls on Feb. 16 and 17.
 
Against St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon, the Peacocks fell to the Tommies in five matches including all three doubles.  Four matches were suspended once St. Thomas clinched the win due to time on the court and the scheduled match with MSU Moorhead at a separate location.

The Peacocks moved over to St. Louis Park, Minn. for their second dual on Saturday and their second Northern Sun Conference dual of the weekend.  Upper Iowa took two of the three doubles matches with Karli Loewecke and Paige Olson teaming up for an 8-2 win at #1 and Nicole Pothen and Rosangel Espinoza pairing up at #2 for an 8-1 win.  Loewecke, Olson, and Pothen all won in straight sets at #1-3 singles, while Meredith Worrall won 7-6, 6-2 at #5 to give UIU their sixth team point.

In their final dual of the weekend, the Peacocks met the Wolves of Northern State in Owatonna, Minn.  Upper Iowa picked up a point at #1 doubles as Loewecke and Olson won a tight 9-8 (7-4) decision, but the Wolves claimed the other two doubles points.  In singles, the Peacocks were only victorious in two matches; Loewecke earned another sinlges win (6-1, 7-5) at #1 and Pothen notched a victory (6-4, 6-1) at #3.
