The Upper Iowa tennis team returned to the courts this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Conference matches in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Peacocks challenged the Cougars of Sioux Falls on Saturday night and then lined up against the Vikings of Augustana on Sunday afternoon.
The Peacocks lost a close 5-4 decision to the Cougars on Saturday night claiming two of the three doubles matches and splitting the six singles contests.Karli Loewecke and Paige Olson teamed up at #1 doubles for an 8-6 win. Sioux Falls was able to earn an 8-6 win at #2 and an 8-1 win at #3 doubles to claim a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
Upper Iowa won the three singles matches at #1, #2 and #3 thanks to the effort of Loeweck, Olson and Nicole Pothen. Sioux Falls got the points they needed to get the victory as they posted wins at #4, #5 and #6.
On Sunday, the Peacocks took the courts against the Vikings. Augustana claimed all three doubles matches and all six singles matches for a 9-0 victory.
After the two losses, UIU is now 2-4 overall and 2-3 against NSIC opponents. The Peacocks will head to Waterloo, Iowa for their next dual on Friday, Feb. 22. Upper Iowa will battle the Division I Jackrabbits of South Dakota State at 1 p.m.
