Results

The Peacock tennis team opened the spring season today in Sartell, Minn. with a Northern Sun Conference match against the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota, Crookston.  Upper Iowa took all three doubles matches and five of the six of the singles matches to win the dual 8-1.

In the first doubles match, Karli Loewecke and Paige Olson won 8-3 to earn the Peacocks their first win of the match. The second doubles match featured Nicole Pothen and Rosangel Espinoza, who came out on top of a 9-8 decision.  Meredith Worrall and Laura Alvarez won the final doubles match in dominating fashion winning 8-0.

With a 3-0 lead, the Peacocks headed to the singles matches and finished off their opponents claiming all but one of the matches.  Loewecke picked up a straight set win without surrendering a game for a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1.  Olson earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #2, while Pothen scored the 6-3, 6-1 victory at #3.  The lone win for the Golden Eagles came at #4 where Espinoza was defeated 6-2, 7-6.  UIU added wins at #5 and #6 singles when Worrall won 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 and Alvarez won 6-2, 7-6.

The Peacocks will remain in Minnesota for a pair of duals in St. Paul, Minn. tomorrow.  Upper Iowa will face St. Thomas and MSU Moorhead tomorrow at 3 and 7 p.m., resepectively.
