Â
LEADING THE GRIFFONS... Cortez Colbert (16.8 ppg, 4 rpg, 3.2 apg) || Ryan Devers (13.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.4 apg) || Adarius Fulton (11.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg) || Cedric Clinkscales (8.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg) || Dzenan Mrkaljevic (7.2 ppg, 4.2 apg)
GOTTA "HANNA" TO YOU... After Tuesday's win, Head Coach
Brooks McKowen recognized the growth of a few freshman standouts. That included Shueyville, Iowa native
Jace Hanna, who finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds and an assist in just 22 minutes of work against UMSL.
Â
"JORDAN" WEARS NUMBER 2-4... Sophomore forward
Jordan Hay has done it all for the Peacocks this year. The Stanwood, Iowa native is second on the team in rebounding, first in blocked shots and second in steals per game. Hay had a breakout game against UMSL earlier this week scoring 9 points to go with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
Â
BETTER NOT TAKE HIM FOR "GRANT-ED"... Junior wing
Grant Lang has really started to heat up from beyond the arc over the past two games. After converting just 3-of-11 threes to begin the year, the Ankeny, Iowa native has drained 5-of-8 treys over the past two weeks. Lang led all scorers on Tuesday with 12 points, nine of which came off three-balls.
MR. "SMITH-ERS"... Redshirt-senior
David Smith  has been a solid assistant since joining the Peacocks last year. On Tuesday night, Smith was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field against the Tritons as he finished tied for second on the team with ten points. Yet, no two points were bigger than his left-handed layup on a drive to the hoop with just 1:16 left in regulation to give UIU a 3-point lead. Smith also earned three rebounds and four assists in just 21 minutes of play. Smith started Tuesday's game marking his second consecutive start this year. In both of his starts, Smith has accumulated 10 points.
FRESHMAN PHENOMS... Although the season is still young, the Peacocks have a strong class of freshmen including
Josh Weeber,
Jimmy Roth,
Jace Hanna,
Austin Mecca, CJ Mason,
Luke Lenhart, Henrique Donati. Mecca, Roth, Weeber and Hanna have all seen solid minutes on the court this year and are making their impact felt. As a group, these freshman are averaging over 30 points per game led by Weeber's 13.5 and Roth's 11 points per contest. The Peacocks will continue to count on the youngsters as the season progresses, but the future looks bright at UIU.
