Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Match
Fayette, IA || Pattison Field || 1 p.m.
THIS WEEK IN WOMEN'S SOCCER… Continuing their longest home stand of the season, the Peacocks will continue play on Pattison Field this weekend as they host two NSIC opponents. UIU will start the weekend off against the Vikings of Augustana College (8-5-1, 6-4-1 NSIC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. Then on Sunday at 1 p.m., the Peacocks will entertain the Wildcats of Wayne State (1-12-1, 19-1 NSIC).
THE SERIES… The Peacocks and Vikings have squared off six times over the past six years. Last season, UIU broke the school record for most wins in a single season against Augie on the road in a
1-0 double-overtime thriller. That win in 2012 gives the Peacocks a 4-1-1 lead in their series with the Vikings.
UIU has faced Wayne State seven times in the past six years with the Peacocks holding an undefeated 5-0-2 advantage in the series. In two out of the last three meetings, the teams remained tied after double-overtime. Last season, UIU blew past WSC in a
2-0 victory on the road.
A SPECIAL SENIOR CLASS… As a class, the seven seniors being honored on Saturday have put up magical numbers at Upper Iowa.
Briel Kohl,
Kaisha McCaffrey,
Amanda Millard,
Brooke Skaggs,
Amanda Smith,
Kelsey Taldone and
Corinne Wronski have combined for 290 games played, 5,334 minutes in goal, 15 goals, 20 assists, 280 saves, six game-winning goals and 452 shots. The 2010 recruiting class also leaves UIU with the most wins for any class in UIU history totaling a 44-20-9 record over the past four years.
LUCKY NUMBER 13… Sophomore midfielder Madie Edwards – number 13 – scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season and added her third assist of the season this past weekend to lead the Peacocks to a conference sweep at home. On Friday, as UIU hosted Minnesota Crookston, Edwards found the back of the net in the 83rd minute as an insurance goal in a 3-1 victory, yet her biggest play came nearly ten minutes earlier. After the Golden Eagles tied the game up at a goal apiece, UIU bounced back to take the lead, 2-1, thanks to a perfect assist on a through-ball from Edwards. The Crystal Lake, Illinois native followed that up with a goal on Sunday against Bemidji State as the Peacocks held on to a 2-1 victory. Edwards scored in the 64th minute on a cross from Corinne Wronski. Edwards totaled five points this weekend and now has five more goals this season than she did all of last season. In all, Edwards took six shots and placed three of those on goal.
YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR ME "ROHR"… Junior forward Lauren Rohrmeier earned her first goal of the season against the Golden Eagles and then followed that up with the game-winning goal over Bemidji State on Sunday. Head Coach Brain Diaz said he knew Rohrmeier was a special player coming into this season. The West Chicago, Illinois native has scored twice this year despite taking just eight total shots, three of which have been on goal. She has now matched here scoring season total from a year ago.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE… Pattison Field has been good to the Peacocks this season, especially in Northern Sun play. UIU has posted an undefeated 5-0 mark against NSIC teams and a 7-1 overall record at home this season. The Peacocks are also averaging over half a goal more per match at home than on the road (2.625 compared to 2 even). The Peacocks still have three home games left this year including this weekend.
RANKINGS RELEASE… After earning a weekend sweep in NSIC play at home, the Peacocks held steady in the 6th spot in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll.

LAST WEEK...
For the Peacocks... This past Friday, after an early scare from UMC on Friday, UIU bounced back with two unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 victory. Junior forward
Lauren Rohrmeier earned her first goal of the season against the Golden Eagles, while
Madie Edwards and
Aimee Wronski also found the back of the net. On Sunday, UIU got off to a sluggish start against BSU, but the offense started to find its rhythm in the second half. Edwards netted the Peacocks' first goal of the game in the 64th minute before BSU tied the game up at a goal apiece. UIU didn't waste any time taking the lead back as Rohrmeier found the net for the second time in as many games. Her goal sealed the 2-1 victory at home giving UIU an 11-3 overall record this year and a 9-2 mark in NSIC play. The Peacocks will continue their longest home stand of the season as they host Augustana next Saturday and Wayne State next Sunday on Pattison Field.
For the Vikings... Vikings forward Maren Werth scored all three goals for the Vikings this past weekend. Werth got her first goal on Friday night against Minot State in a 2-1 overtime loss. The Bloomington, Minn. native took a pass from Haley Berner and put it past the keeper into the right side of the net. It was the senior's 11th goal of the season. On Sunday, senior kept her scoring assault going by recording two goals for Augustana against U-Mary. The first goal came when the forward netted the opening goal of the contest from the six yards out in the middle of the field. Werth would score again – her 13th goal of 2013 – in the 29th minute of regulation, when she hooked up with Jessica Madson, who crossed the ball from the right side of the field, and the forward struck it in from just in front of the keeper. Augustana would tie the Marauders 2-2 in double overtime on Sunday.
For the Wildcats... Wayne State dropped a pair of NSIC road games in women's soccer over the weekend, falling 4-0 at Mary Friday night and 1-0 at Minot State Sunday afternoon. Junior forward McKenna Adams paced WSC offensively with seven shots in the two games and three on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Comba was credited with six and five saves respectively in the two matches. The Wildcats continue their five-game road trip this weekend with games at Winona State Saturday and Upper Iowa Sunday starting at 1 p.m. each day.
COACH'S CORNER…. More than halfway into his first season, coach
Brian Diaz has led the Peacocks to a 11-3 start overall and a 9-2 mark in the NSIC. Through 14 games, Diaz has the best record as a first-year head coach in Upper Iowa history.
