THIS WEEK IN WOMEN'S SOCCER… The Peacocks – who had their five-game win streak snapped this past weekend in Marshall, Minnesota – will return home to Pattison field for an NSIC double-header this weekend. On Friday, Upper Iowa will host the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston (3-7-2, 1-6-2 NSIC) on Pattison Field at 3 p.m. Then on Sunday, UIU will take on the Beavers of Bemidji State (9-3, 6-3 NSIC) at 1 p.m.

THE SERIES… The Peacocks have jumped out to a sufficient lead in their series with the Golden Eagles. UIU owns a 6-1-1 record against UMC, having won or tied the last six matches.

The Peacocks and the Beavers have met nine different times over the past nine years. BSU holds a slim 5-4 advantage in the series over UIU, but the Peacocks have won four of the past five meetings between the squads. Last season in the opening round of the NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament, the Peacocks sealed their second consecutive trip to the semifinals with a 1-0 victory over the Beavers on Pattison Field.

KALI'S GOLDEN "LOE"… According to her coach, Kali Loescher had her best weekend of the year this past Saturday and Sunday. The junior forward scored two goals on Sunday to propel the Upper Iowa Peacocks to a 5-1 victory on the road over the University of Sioux Falls. In the 30th minute of the match, Loescher curved a corner kick right into the net for her third score this season. Her goal gave the Peacocks a 1-0 lead going into halftime. She later collected a ricocheted pass and scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the year in the 72nd minute to make it a three-score game, 4-1. In all, Loescher had four shots against the Cougars and placed three of those on frame. On Saturday, the Crystal Lake, Illinois native had two shots and placed one on goal, but the Peacocks fell to the 21st-ranked Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State by a score of 1-0.

THERE'S NO TAMING "AIMEE"… Only one player in all of the Northern Sun Conference has scored more goals this season than the Peacocks' Aimee Wronski. The youngest Wronski sister has netted 11 total goals this season, including one on Sunday in a 5-1 victory over the Cougars of Sioux Falls. Wronski has taken a league-high 68 shots this year and has placed 35 of those on goal. Also on Sunday, she added her second assist of the season as she found her older sister Corinne Wronski with the dish in the 62nd minute for the score.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE… Pattison Field has been good to the Peacocks this season, especially in Northern Sun play. UIU has posted an undefeated 3-0 mark against NSIC teams at home this year and a 5-1 overall record on Pattison Field this season. The Peacocks are also averaging nearly half a goal more per match at home than on the road (2.33 compared to 2 even). That's good news for a team that plays five of its last six regular season games at home.

RANKINGS RELEASE… After splitting their matchups this past weekend, the Peacocks fell one spot to 6th place in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll. Click here to view the poll.

LAST WEEK...

For the Peacocks... Led by Loescher's strong offensive performance this past weekend, the Peacocks earned a split on the road against Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls. On Saturday, an early goal from SMSU's Miranda Cadena propelled the 21st-ranked Mustangs to a 1-0 victory in Marshall, Minnesota. UIU out-shot the Mustangs 10-8 in the match, including 2-1 in shots on goal, but failed to find the back of the net for just the second time this year. The Peacocks bounced back with a resounding 5-1 victory over the Cougars of Sioux Falls thanks to two goals from Loescher and a goal each from each of the Wronski sisters. The Peacocks will now head back to Fayette to host the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston this Friday and the Beavers of Bemidji State on Sunday.

For the Golden Eagles...  The Golden Eagles picked up four points on the road this past weekend. It was the first time in program history that the Golden Eagles have picked up two positive results on the road in the same weekend in NSIC play. UMC topped MSU Moorhead 2-1 in the battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock on Saturday. The Golden Eagles settled for a hard fought 0-0 double overtime tie at Northern State on Sunday. Delaney McIntyre (So, M, Flin Flon, Manitoba) recorded one goal and added an assist for three points in the victory over MSUM. Lexie Gauger (Fr, GK, Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) allowed only one goal on the weekend while playing 200 minutes. She recorded 13 saves and also picked up her second career shutout. Rachelle Alcini (Jr, D, Ann Arbor, Mich./Health Sciences) helped lead a backline to a 1-0-1 record while only allowing 1 goal over the weekend on the road against MSU Moorhead and Northern State including just 4 shots on goal against Northern State on Sunday. Nikki Hammond (Sr, F, Nelson, Minn./Health Sciences), Kallie Gau (Fr, M, Monticello, Minn/Early Childhood Education) and McIntyre all have four points on the season. Hammond and Gau have each scored two goals while McIntyre has scored one goal and added two assists. Rachel Halligan (Sr, D, Duluth, Minn./Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education) has scored one goal and added one assist for three points. Gauger has a 1.15 goals against average and a .833 saves percentage with two shutouts.

For the Beavers...  Sam Lumberg (D, So., Woodbury, Minn.) was a catalyst to Bemidji State's 2-0-0 NSIC road weekend (Oct. 12-13). Lumberg played all 201 minutes of the weekend to lead a BSU backline that held its opponents to just eight shots on goal and one goal on the weekend. The Beavers allowed five shots en route to posting a shutout, double-overtime, 1-0 victory at Northern State University Saturday before allowing just one goal on three shots in a 2-1 overtime win at Minnesota State University-Moorhead Sunday. Lumberg also chipped in on offense versus the Dragons. She netted her first goal of her career in the 97th minute to clinch the victory for BSU.  The BSU defense has allowed just 12 goals in 2013 to rank fourth in the NSIC in goals agasint average (0.97) and has posted six shutouts in 12 games. Sonja Barr (GK, Jr., Duluth, Minn.) posted a 2-0-0 record in 127:08 to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team in an NSIC road weekend. Barr posted a 1-0 shutout victory in Saturday's 104 minute double-overtime battle. She posted five saves in the match. Sunday she held MSU-Moorhead scoreless in 23:08 in relief of Amanda Garvin to gain the victory. She is now 6-1-0 on the season and leads the NSIC in goals against average (0.46) and save percentage (.919)--a mark that ranks her 10th in the nation, while her four shutouts place her fifth in the league. Bemidji State posted a pair of road wins Oct. 12-13 improving its record to 9-3-0 on the year, while it is 6-3 in NSIC play. Both of BSU's wins game in overtime. The Beavers gained a 1-0 victory in double overtime Saturday at Northern State. The Beavers got the lone goal of the game off the foot of Jessie Voeller (F, Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) in the 104th minute. Sonja Barr netter her fourth shutout of the season making five saves in the match. Sunday, BSU used a goal by Tiffany VanHaaften (M, Sr., Chaska, Minn.) with 13 minutes to go in regulation to tie the score and force overtime. Sam Lumberg (D, Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) scored the game-winner in the 97 minute, 2-1 win at MSU Moorhead Sunday.

COACH'S CORNER…. More than halfway into his first season, coach Brian Diaz has led the Peacocks to a 9-3 start overall and a 7-2 mark in the NSIC. Through 12 games, Diaz has the best record as a first-year head coach in Upper Iowa history.
