THIS WEEK IN WOMEN'S SOCCER… The Peacocks will take their five-game win streak on the road this week looking for another weekend sweep. On Saturday, UIU will be in Marshall, Minnesota to take on the 21st-ranked Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State (10-0-0, 7-0-0 NSIC) in a battle between two of the top teams in the NSIC this year. Then on Sunday, the Peacocks will head to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to face the Cougars of Sioux Falls University (1-8-1, 1-5-1 NSIC). Both games are slated to begin at 1 p.m.

THE SERIES... The Peacocks have faced the Mustangs seven times in the past six years and UIU holds a 4-1-2 lead in the series. Yet, the Peacocks failed to net a goal in Fayette last year as the game ended in a 0-0 tie. UIU has never lost in Marshall, Minnesota.

UIU is 1-0 versus Sioux Falls after defeating the Cougars, 10-0 last season in Fayette.

WRONSKI WRECKING CREW … Aimee Wronski scored three times this past weekend to take sole possession of the top scoring spot in the conference with ten total goals. As a junior, Wronski is averaging a goal a game and with her help, the Peacocks extended their win streak to five games with back-to-back victories this past weekend.  Against Northern State on Saturday, Wronski netted her eighth and ninth goals of the season to propel UIU to a 3-0 victory at home. All four of her shots against NSU were placed on frame. Then on Sunday against MSU Moorhead, the junior hit the game-winning goal with just 40 seconds left to give UIU a 4-3 win over the Dragons. On Sunday, she had seven total shots, placing two on goal, and she added an assist to her stat line. Wronski is now tied for the lead in the NSIC with five game-winning goals this season.

MACKIE T… Freshman Mackenzie Taldone entered Sunday's game with two starts under her belt, but she played as if she was a full-time starter. The 5-foot-2 Crystal Lake, Illinois native made her presence felt immediately as UIU hosted the Dragons of MSU Moorhead.  She netted her first collegiate goal in the 29th minute of action, and then added her second goal as a Peacock in the 47th minute. Despite only taking 10 shots this season, Taldone has placed five of those shots on frame and she's scored twice.

BEATING THE BEST… The Peacocks (3-1, 1-0 NSIC) have notched two wins over top-25 teams this season thanks to a 2-1 win over #23 Central Oklahoma and a 1-0 shutout of #17 Winona State. UIU also defeated last year's NSIC/US Bank Women's Soccer Tournament champions - Minot State - this past weekend in overtime. Now the Peacock take on another ranked team this week as they head to Minnesota to face the undefeated Mustangs. LAST WEEK...

For the Peacocks...   UIU earned two big wins at home this past weekend as they hosted the Wolves of Northern State and the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. The Peacocks outpaced the Wolves on Saturday en route to a 3-0 victory thanks to a stifling defense and a potent offensive attack. Aimee Wronski netted two goals in the victory, while her older sister Corinne Wronski earned her first goal of the season. In goal, Kaitlyn Emanuel recorded two saves and her fourth shutout of the season. On Sunday, the Peacocks jumped on the Dragons early and often and took a 2-1 lead into halftime thanks to goals from Madie Edwards and Mackenzie Taldone. The Dragons bounced back in the second half to tie the game, but Aimee Wronski sealed the game with her fifth game-winning goal of the season. The score was her tenth of the season – most in the NSIC – and came with just :40 seconds on the clock. The Peacocks sealed the 4-3 victory to improve to 6-1 in the conference this year and 8-2 overall.

For the Mustangs...  Mustang forward Miranda Cadena (F, So., 5-2, Highland, Calif. / Redlands East Valley) and her first career hat trick led No. 18 Southwest Minnesota State to an improbable comeback victory over Bemidji State on Saturday. Cadena and the Mustangs found themselves down 3-0 with the game heading to the 57th minute. In the 57th minute, The Mustangs would score off a free kick to make it 3-1 and then Cadena turned it on. Cadena would score goals in the 62nd and 63rd minute to erase the deficit and complete the comeback. Cadena wouldn't stop there. With the game looking as if it was heading to overtime it was Cadena who made the clutch play the Mustangs were looking for. In the 89th minute Cadena scored SMSU's fourth consecutive goal in the second half to lift the Mustangs to the unbelievable comeback. Cadena's hat trick was the first of her career and SMSU's first since Sept. 14, 2004. Cadena now has eigth goals through ten games. She also has five assists this season. On Sunday versus Minnesota Crookston, Cadena didn't score but she still was a big part of the offense as she recorded assists on two of SMSU's three goals. The sophomore forward finished the weekend with five shots on goal, two assists, three goals – including a game-winner, and eight points.

For the Cougars... USF claimed their first victory since joining the NSIC when they defeated Minnesota Crookston by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The victory was the first win for the Cougars since November 6, 2011.Late in the first period, the Cougars Ciara Howerton (Jr, Independence, Mo./Maple Woods CC) found the back of the net off of a Rachel Mata pass to put the Cougars up 1-0 heading into the half. USF's defense wreaked havoc on the UMC offense in the first period as the Golden Eagles were held to one shot in the first 45 minutes of action. The Cougars then faced Bemidji State on Sunday falling by a score of 2-0.
