Upper Iowa and St. Cloud State faced off twice in 2011. The first matchup in Fayette ended in a scoreless tie while the Huskies got the best of the Peacocks the next time around. In the second round of the 2011 NSIC/U.S. Bank Women's Soccer Tournament, the two teams were tied up 1-1 at the end of regulation and SCSU defeated UIU in the shootout, 6-5. Today, however, Upper Iowa defeated St. Cloud State 1-0 thanks to a late goal from senior forward, Elizabeth Kaluzinski. With their first ever win over St. Cloud, the Peacocks improve to 4-1 and 1-1 in Northern Sun play. The Huskies fall to 2-2-1 including 1-1 in the NSIC.

Seventy-four minutes into the game, Corinne Wronski delivered a cross from the left side that landed by the near post. Kaluzinksi then ran in from the right side and met the ball putting it into the back of the net. That is the first goal of the season for the All-NSIC performer after she scored nine goals all of last season. The assist is Wronski's first of 2012.

Kaluzinski was asked how it felt for her to be able to come off the bench and contribute; "I have been frustrated this year because of injury early so it's great to know that my hard work and effort to get back have paid off."

UIU controlled the tempo throughout the first half and after 45 minutes, led SCSU in shots 9-4. They continued that tempo in the second half and ended up doubling the guests in shots, 16-8 including 7-4 in shots on goal.

Amanda Smith earned the shutout victory with four saves and very stingy defense throughout. She now has 22 saves in Upper Iowa's five games this season.

When asked about how he felt about another shutout, Head Coach Brian Bahl said, "We got some strong backline play again along with good goalkeeper play. That keeps us in most games and we always feel like we have a chance to win."

Tomorrow, the Peacocks are back at it to take on the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Pattison Field.
