NORTHERN SUN WOMEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET

The Peacock tennis team wrapped up their regular season this past weekend and locked in the #3 seed in the upcoming NSIC Championships with a perfect 4-0 record.  Upper Iowa dominated match ups with Bemidji State (8-1) and Southwest Minnesota State (9-0) on Saturday before winning a pair of 6-3 decisions over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth.  With the wins, UIU improved to 8-2 in NSIC matches and claimed third place in the standings.

On Saturday, the Peacocks took on the BSU Beavers first and won two of the three doubles matches before sweeping the six singles matches to win 8-1.  Upper Iowa followed up with a second dominating performance against the SMSU Mustangs.  The Peacocks shutout the Mustangs winning all nine matches while only surrendering 10 games in singles action and 7 games in the three doubles matches.

On Sunday, Upper Iowa won a hard fought 6-3 dual against the SCSU Huskies.  The Peacocks won all three doubles matches and split the singles matches on the way to the win.  In UIU’s final dual of the weekend, the team defeated the UMD Bulldogs by an identical 6-3 score.

The Peacocks will now turn their focus to this weekend’s NSIC Championships with a first round date against the Dragons of MSU Moorhead, the #5 seed, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Lifetime Fitness Oakdale (Village Tennis) in Minnetonka, Minn.  The #2 seeded Warriors of Winona State will await the winner of the Peacock-Dragon match in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.  The Championship match will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
