Peacocks Dominate Matches with Sioux Falls and U-Mary

The Peacock tennis program continued their winning ways this spring season with a pair of wins in Owatonna, Minn.  The Peacocks completed a pair of 8-1 wins over Sioux Falls, a future member of the NSIC, and U-Mary, a current NSIC foe, to improve to 3-0 this spring and 2-0 in NSIC action.

Upper Iowa will have two weeks until their next match.  The Peacocks will return to the courts in two Saturdays, Feb. 25, in Des Moines, Iowa.  UIU will face a pair of NCAA Division I opponents in Drake and Montana at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Upper Iowa 8 - Sioux Falls 1

The Peacocks led 2-1 coming out of the double matches thanks to wins by Amanda Nunez and Karli Loewecke at #1 (8-1) and Angelica Alba and Patricia VanderHoeven at #3 (8-0).  Sioux Falls was leading the #2 match when Nicole Pothen and Courtney Romer had to withdraw due to injury to Pothen.

Nunez and Loewecke won 6-0, 6-1 at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, while Romer picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3.  Alba scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #4 and Jennah Smith won her match at #5 by a 6-4, 6-0 count.  VanderHoeven completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6.

Upper Iowa 8 - U-Mary 1

Upper Iowa swept the three doubles matches against the Marauders thanks to wins at #1 by Romer and Loewecke (8-1), at #2 by Nunez and Smith (8-4) and at #3 by VanderHoeven and Abla (8-1).

The Peacocks claimed five of the six singles matches to post their 8-1 victory.  Nunez won her match at #1 by a 6-1, 6-0 score, while Loewecke picked up the 6-2, 6-0 victory at #2.  Romer won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 and Alba posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4.  VanderHoeven suffered her first loss of the spring season after moving up to #5 (2-6, 7-6 (7-4), (8-10)).  Smith claimed the final victory of the day (6-1, 7-6 (7-0)) at #6.
