The Peacock women’s tennis program improved to 8-1 in Northern Sun Conference action with a perfect 3-0 weekend in southern Minnesota. Upper Iowa earned a 5-4 decision over Minnesota State on Friday night in St. Peter before heading to Owatonna on Saturday where they picked up a pair of 8-1 wins over Southwest Minnesota State and Bemidji State. With the wins, UIU improves to 10-5 overall this spring.

The Peacocks’ final two NSIC contests will come on April 3 in St. Cloud, Minn. Upper Iowa will face U-Mary at 9 a.m. and St. Cloud State at 12:30 p.m.

 

 

The Peacocks lost two of three doubles matches with the Mavericks, but won four of the six singles matches to escape with a close 5-4 win. Anastasia Dabiza and Courtney Romer teamed up at #2 doubles for UIU’s only win, 8-4, prior to the singles matches. Amanda Nunez, Dabiza, Karli Loewecke and Romer all won their singles matches; although, three of the four matches were very close and two went to a tiebreaker.

Upper Iowa 8 – Southwest Minnesota State 1 

Upper Iowa dominated the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in their matchup earlier this afternoon. The Peacocks’ lone loss came at #1 doubles, but UIU got wins at #2 doubles by Dabiza and Romer and at #3 doubles by Nicole Henry and Jennah Smith. All six Peacocks got straight set wins in their singles matches. UIU only dropped 12 games in the six singles matches to the Mustangs.

The Peacocks closed out their perfect weekend with an 8-1 victory over the Beavers of Bemidji State. Upper Iowa swept the doubles matches thanks to dominating wins by all three pairs. Upper Iowa won five of the six singles matches with Bemidji State’s only win coming at #5.
