Peacocks Ready for 2011 Season; Open in Minneapolis on Sunday

Upper Iowa will face Minnesota Duluth to open NSIC play

The Peacock tennis team will open their 2011 season this Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn.  Upper Iowa will face off against the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth at 3 p.m.

Upper Iowa is ranked third in the Central Region by the ITA just behind NSIC-foe, Augustana College, and Metro State.  The Peacocks also boast a pair of individuals in the Central Region Singles Top 10 and a nationally ranked doubles team. Freshman Amanda Nunez is ranked third in the singles poll while sophomore teammate Anastasia Dabiza is ranked ninth.

Both Peacocks are also named in the doubles top ten as Nunez and her teammate, Karli Loewecke, are the top ranked doubles pair in the Central Region and ranked as the 17th in the nation.  Dabiza and her doubles partner, Courtney Romer, are the eighth-ranked team in the Central Region preseason poll.

The Peacocks are ranked as the 50th best team in NCAA Division II.

Upper Iowa’s schedule sees them compete in seven NSIC matchups prior to the end of February. The team will head to Orlando, Florida for spring break and compete against five non-conference opponents before returning to the Midwest for the remainder of their conference slate.

The Peacocks will face five NSIC foes over the course of three weeks before completing their regular season schedule with competition against two more non-conference opponents before the NSIC Tournament, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minn. on April 16-17.
