FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock men's and women's golf teams host the Upper Iowa Invitational this weekend at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo. The invite is scheduled for a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4.
LAST TIME OUT
Men's golf placed second, totaling 580 at the Wartburg Spring Invitational last weekend. Owen Davison won the tournament, shooting five strokes better than the next golfer. He shot a career-low 67 (-5) on Sunday.
Christian Burkhart tied for fifth, scoring a career-best 144 (E). Jayden Rios tied for 11th, totaling 148 (+4). The Effingham, Illinois native netted a career-low 70 (-2) in the second round. Jack Miller tied for 17th, shooting 150 (+6).
Women's golf finished ninth, scoring 651 (+75) at Monday and Tuesday's NSIC Preview. Lizzy Ellis had the best performance, placing 27th with a score of 158 (+14). The senior led the team in birdies with four and pars with 14.
Addison Weber tied for 40th, shooting 163 (+19). Fern Babinski tied for 45th, totaling 166 (+22).
GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Davison earned GLVC Player of the Week after his first-place finish at the Wartburg Spring Invitational. He became the second GLVC Player of the Week for the program, joining Tate Carlson in 2023.
MEET INFO
There are nine teams on each of the men's and women's sides, including GLVC foe Quincy (Ill.). The teams are from Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
On the men's side, other Division II competition includes UMary (N.D.), Northern Michigan and Augustana (S.D.). For the women, Northern Michigan, Winona State (Minn.) and Wisconsin-Parkside are the Division II teams competing.
Sunnyside Golf & Country Club's par 72 golf course is viewed as one of the more difficult courses in Northeast Iowa. It received the honor of the Iowa Golf Association's 2006 Course of the Year. The course is 6471 yards from the furthest Blue tee.
