UIU softball heads to Missouri this weekend for a set of doubleheaders

Upper Iowa play Missouri S&T at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Lincoln at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

FAYETTE, Iowa - Peacock softball (5-33, 0-14 GLVC) heads to Missouri to face Missouri S&T (23-15, 10-6 GLVC) on Saturday and Lincoln (Mo.) (17-18, 3-13 GLVC) on Sunday. Both days feature doubleheaders at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa lost its last four games at home this past weekend. The team was defeated twice by Drury (Mo.) (19-22, 9-9 GLVC), 9-0 and 6-1, and then lost twice to Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (18-26, 7-11 GLVC), with both games ending 11-2 in just five innings.

Kaitlin Foral totaled four hits, an RBI and a run scored during those four games. She batted 2-for-3 (.667) at the plate in the second game against DU. In that same game, Dani Laughlin batted 3-for-3 at the plate. 

On the mound, Sara Reid had 10 strikeouts during the weekend. Cara Farnam had seven. Reid also connected for a hit with a double in the second game against SBU. Addyson Alber had two RBIs with a hit in the doubleheader with Southwest Baptist. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Laughlin slashes a team-best .427/.492/.456. The redshirt sophomore also leads the team with 44 hits and 14 RBIs. Reagon Proud posts a team-high nine doubles and has scored a team-high 18 runs. Farnam recorded the team's only triple and leads the team with two home runs. 

Jescie Comstock has walked a team most 17 times. She is also tied with Emma Tautges for the team-high three sacrifice hits. Elliott Pomeroy and Kaylee Marhefke both lead the team with two sacrifice flies. 

Reid has been UIU's top pitcher on the mound, throwing 112 innings, giving up 51 earned runs on 132 hits and 16 walks. The Riverside native also has a 3.19 ERA, has struck out 65 batters and has pitched a shutout. 

As a team, the Peacocks slash .225/.306/.294 on the season. The team also has 214 hits, 43 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 92 RBIs and 103 runs scored. 

AROUND THE GLVC
Jasmine Myers of McKendree (Ill.) (32-10, 13-5 GLVC) was named GLVC Player of the Week after guiding her team to a 3-1 week against Missouri-St. Louis (19-17, 12-4 GLVC) and Maryville (Mo.) (17-19, 7-9 GLVC). She had a home run and slashed .556/.692/1.222. 

Caitlin Bente of UIndy (43-3, 17-1 GLVC) boasted Pitcher of the Week after helping her team go 7-1. The freshman pitched 24 innings with four starts, allowing one earned run on 16 hits. She threw three complete games with a shutout, while striking out 18 batters.  

Indianapolis holds down the first spot in the GLVC with a nine-game win streak. Missouri-St. Louis sits firmly in second, while McKendree sits firmly in third. Upper Iowa sits in 14th place right behind Quincy (Ill.) (7-33, 3-13 GLVC) in 13th. The Peacocks are also two spots behind Lincoln 12th. 

There are two GLVC teams ranked within the top 25 of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll. UIndy moved up from No. 7 last week to No. 4. McKendree moved up a spot from No. 20 to No. 19. The Greyhounds received 345 points, and the Bearcats received 104 points in the poll. 

ABOUT THE MINERS - Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. 
Missouri S&T is 2-2 in its last four games. The Miners dropped a doubleheader to Indianapolis on April 11, then swept Lewis on April 12. 

Taylor Nelson has a team-best .809 slugging percentage and team-best .493 on-base percentage. Claire Lopez has a team second-best .469 on-base percentage. She and Kaylee LaChappell are tied for a team-high two triples. 

AJ Agers is the most experienced pitcher, throwing 112.1 innings. The senior has allowed 41 earned runs on 98 hits and 45 walks. The DeSoto, Missouri native also has a 2.55 ERA, a shutout and 57 strikeouts. 

Summer Anagnostopoulos is in her second season as the coach. Her overall record is 42-49.

ABOUT THE BLUE TIGERS - Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. 
Lincoln has lost four straight games. The Blue Tigers lost twice to Illinois-Springfield on April 11 and twice to UIndy on April 12. 

Gracie Wright leads the team with a .440 slugging percentage, while Ann-Marie Simpson leads the team with a .424 on-base percentage. TK Lawson has a team-high four home runs. Faith Jaegers has the most doubles with two. 

Abby Pulliman leads the team with 71.2 innings pitched. The junior has given up 40 earned runs on 85 hits and 18 walks. She has a 3.91 ERA, pitched a shutout and struck out 35 batters.  

Head Coach Jason Ollison is in his fourth year at LU. He has an overall record of 53-126. 

UP NEXT
The Peacocks return for their final homestand on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26 against Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville. Those games will take place at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. each day, respectively.
