WAVERLY, Iowa - The Peacock men's golf team competed in the Wartburg Spring Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday. Owen Davison took first place individually with an overall score of 138 (-6).
UIU finished second overall with a score of 580 (+4). The team shot 297 (+9) in round one and 283 (-5) in round two.
Davison shot 71 (-1) in the first round and a career-low 67 (-5) in the second. His previous career low was at last year's Wartburg Invite, where he shot 68 (-4) in round two. The La Crescent, Minnesota native also led the tournament in birdies with nine and was tied for fifth in pars with 24.
Christian Burkhart tied for fifth, shooting a career-best 144 (E) overall. Jayden Rios tied for 11th, scoring 148 (+4) while recording a career-low 70 (-2) in the second round. Jack Miller tied for 17th with a total of 150 (+6).
Joseph Grau tied 33rd with an overall score of 154 (+10). Ethan Cahalan tied for 41st, scoring 156 (+12). Ethan Anderson tied for 70th, shooting 162 (+18), while Jaxx Johnson tied for 74th, shooting 164 (+20). Burkhart, Grau and Anderson each had an eagle.
Upper Iowa finished one stroke behind Kirkwood CC, which totaled a 579 (+3). Grinnell took third after shooting 594 (+18).
Dean Roberts of Kirkwood CC B team and Reid Hall of Kirkwood CC tied for second, scoring 143 (-1). Duke Taylor of Wartburg and Isaiah Zoske of Kirkwood CC tied Burkhart for fifth place, shooting 144 (E).
UIU hosts the Upper Iowa Invitational on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4th in Waterloo. The event takes place at Sunnyside Golf & Country Club.
