MAYETTA, Kan. - UIU women's golf placed 11th in the Firekeeper Open hosted by Washburn at Firekeeper Golf Course. Fern Babinski and Lizzy Ellis finished a team-best 59th with a total of 254 (+38) each.
As a team, the Peacocks' total was 997 (+133), with their best round being the second round, when they shot 327 (+39). The team also shot 339 (+51) in round one and 331 (+43) in round three.
Babinski had rounds of 85 (+13), 83 (+11) and 86 (+14). She was one-over-par in her first three holes of day two, with a par in her first hole of the day on hole 15. Ellis recorded rounds of 88 (+16), 82 (+10) and 84 (+12). The senior led the team with four birdies, including two in round two at holes one and 12.
Brynn Bonefas and Delaney Martin tied for 62nd, shooting 255 (+39). Bonefas had a birdie on her second hole of the tournament, while Martin had a birdie on her second hole of round two. Bonefas recorded her best round of the season on Tuesday, shooting 78 (+6) for the best overall round of any UIU golfer.
Addison Weber tied for 62nd place with a total of 256 (+40). The sophomore led the team in pars with 25 and had the least amount of bogeys of any Peacock with 19.
Washburn and Nebraska Kearney tied for first, shooting 908 (+44), until Washburn won by a team playoff after hole one. Wayne State (Neb.) placed third, shooting 915 (+51).
Lanie Veenendall of Augustana (S.D.) took first individually, shooting 218 (+2). Addi Wood of Concordia-St. Paul took second, shooting 219 (+3). Pella Broms of Nebraska Kearney and Angelina Borg-Malec of Washburn tied for third with a total of 221 (+5).
The Peacocks tee off next in the NSIC Preview hosted by Minnesota State on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31. The meet takes place at Adams Pointe Golf Club.
