FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa softball (5-21, 0-2 GLVC) is slated for a four-game homestand. The Peacocks play Quincy (Ill.) (4-20, 0-4 GLVC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and Truman State (Mo.) (9-19, 1-3 GLVC) on Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
UIU's series against Lewis (Ill.) (5-9) was postponed, while its series against No. 11 UIndy (23-1, 4-0 GLVC) was moved to West Liberty. The Peacocks fell to the Greyhounds, 13-2 (5 inn.) in game one, and 3-2 in game two.
Cara Farnam took home Upper Iowa's Yoga Genesis Women's Athlete of the Week after totaling two hits and three RBIs against UIndy. In game one, she hit an RBI groundout while scoring a run of her own. The Lincoln, Illinois native also netted five putouts in left field.
Dani Laughlin went a team-best 3-for-5 (.600) at the plate, adding an RBI on a bases-loaded walk. Jescie Comstock and Emma Tautges each recorded two hits. Elliott Pomerory posted a single in the second contest.
AROUND THE GLVC
Addison Koth of Maryville (Mo.) (13-11, 3-1 GLVC) collected GLVC Player of the Week honors after guiding the Saints to wins over Rockhurst (Mo.) (13-10, 1-3 GLVC) and William Jewell (Mo.) (9-17, 0-4 GLVC). The Blue Springs, Missouri native went 10-for-14 (.714) at the plate with six home runs and two doubles. She also recorded 14 RBIs while scoring six runs.
Caitlin Bunte of Indianapolis earned conference Pitcher of the Week after leading her team to wins over Ferris State (Mich.) (14-11), Gannon (Penn.) (5-7), Bemidji State (Minn.) (6-17), Florida Tech (19-6-1), Upper Iowa and Quincy. She threw for a total of 24.2 innings, allowing two runs on 11 hits and three walks with a 0.57 ERA. The freshman also struck out 23 batters.
There are two GLVC teams ranked within the top 25 of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll. UIndy is at No. 9 with 265 votes, and McKendree (Ill.) (23-5, 4-0 GLVC) is at No. 16 with 153 votes.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Laughlin slashes a team-best .365/.447/.392. She also leads the team with 10 RBIs and 27 hits. The Riverside native is also tied with Reagon Proud in doubles with five. Proud leads the team with 76 at-bats, while tying Elliott Pomeroy for a team-high 12 runs.
Farnam leads the team with two home runs and a team-high one triple, while Comstock has been walked a team-high 13 times. Comstock leads the team in on-base percentage with .455. Sara Reid is the most experienced pitcher on the team, throwing 81.2 innings while giving up 29 earned runs on 78 hits and 14 walks. The senior also has a 2.50 ERA, has struck out 46 batters and has pitched a shutout.
As a team, the Peacocks have 499 putouts, 63 RBIs, 72 walks and 73 runs. UIU's at the plate connected for 26 doubles, four home runs and a triple.
ABOUT THE HAWKS - Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
In the past week, Quincy lost a doubleheader against Illinois Springfield (19-7, 3-1 GLVC) and a doubleheader against UIndy. The Hawks face Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Makala Koozer slashes a team-best .382/.472/.461. The Gretna, Nebraska, native also leads the team in runs scored with 17. Kaidence Dumas has driven home a team-most 20 runs. She is also tied with Kenzie Moss for a team-high five home runs.
Haley Martin has thrown the most innings on the team with 51.1 innings, allowing 47 earned runs on 83 hits and 21 walks. She has a 6.41 ERA and 19 strikeouts.
Cathy Monroe is in her third season as head coach. Her overall record is 27-95.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS - Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Last week, Truman State split a pair of games with Lewis but lost both games against McKendree. The Bulldogs square off with Lewis on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Cassie Smith leads the team in slashing with .472/.489/.652. She also has a team-high four triples, team-high 11 RBIs and a team-high 17 runs scored. Riley Redig has recorded a team-best six doubles. Katie Pilcher and Brooke Nutter have each netted a team-most two home runs.
Jayda Long leads the team in innings pitched with 62.2, giving up 16 earned runs on 24 walks and 53 hits. The Altoona native has also notched 25 strikeouts. She has a 1.79 ERA.
Head coach Ron Ferrill is in his fourth year at Truman St. He has an overall record of 75-110.
