Men’s Basketball Prepped for GLVC Championship Tournament

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S BASKETBALL
Upper Iowa men's basketball is set for the GLVC Championship Tournament this weekend, entering the event as a #3 seed. They will take on #6 Truman State on Friday at 2:15 p.m. A win on Friday against Truman State would advance Upper Iowa to the semi-finals on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. against the winner of UMSL and Rockhurst. The championship will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tickets to all contests can be found at the link here or attached to this story. Prices (per game) are $15 for an adult, $7.50 for a student (with valid student ID), $5.00 for ages 6-12th grade and free for kids ages 5 and under. 
 
LIVE OPTIONS
The games will be streamed on the GLVCSN behind a paywall. All viewers will be required to pay $12 for each contest (pre-tax) or $35 for the tournament (women and men separately).  Previous subscriptions from the regular seasons covered only regular-season games and funds were split amongst all league members, while all post-season purchases go directly to the GLVC.

SECOND TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE HONOREES
Noah King and Kyle Hrncir were each selected to the All-GLVC Second Team after the conference schedule concluded. 
 
King earned a spot on the All-GLVC Second Team after averaging 15.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game during the conference schedule. He shot 42.5% from the floor and 32% from beyond the arc against league opponents. The Caledonia, Minn. native recorded nine games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 29 points in a double-overtime win over Lewis last weekend
 
Hrncir earned a spot on the All-GLVC Second Team after averaging 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game during the conference schedule. The forward collected 78 offensive rebounds during the regular season, ranking second in the GLVC. He also led the team with 35 steals (5th in the GLVC) and blocked nine shots. Hrncir posted five double-doubles on the season and set a career-high with 35 points in Upper Iowa's victory over #5 Missouri S&T.
 
IN OUR BLOOD
Upper Iowa men's basketball claimed the GLVC Player of the Year honor for the second consecutive season. Nick Reid was awarded the title this year, following Jake Hilmer, who earned Player of the Year honors in 2023-24.
 
Reid led the league in scoring with 23.9 points per game (24.8 in GLVC contests) and ranks ninth in NCAA DII for points per game. The forward also finished second in the GLVC in rebounds, averaging 8.3 per game, and has recorded eight double-doubles. He has scored in double digits in every game this season, including eight performances with 30 or more points. Reid has added 58 assists, 28 steals, and 18 blocks. He is shooting 42.8% from the field, 35% from beyond the arc, and 86% from the free-throw line, where he ranks fifth in NCAA DII with 181 made free throws. Reid has been named GLVC Player of the Week three times, earned Player of the Year honors, made First Team All-GLVC, and was named to the Bevo Francis Top 50 Watch List.
 
MIDWEST REGIONAL RANKINGS
Upper Iowa men's basketball was listed sixth in the NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings released Wednesday afternoon, moving up from the seventh-place spot in last week's edition. The Peacocks are 20-8 overall with the same record in-region (20-8) and 14-6 in the GLVC.
 
Five GLVC schools are in the rankings, with Missouri S&T leading the way in first. The Miners are 19-34 on the season, with one of their four losses coming to Upper Iowa (100-85). The remaining league members making an appearance were UMSL (5th), Lincoln (8th) and Lewis (10th).
 
CONSECUTIVE 20-WIN SEASONS
Peacock men's basketball has collected its third 20-plus win season in the last four years, currently sitting at 20-8 overall in the 2024-25 campaign. They eclipsed the 25-win mark in 2021-22, as the team posted a 26-6 (18-4 NSIC) record. 
 
THE WAY AROUND THE BRACKET (GLVC Sports)
The event features the No. 1 and No. 8 seeds squaring off on Thursday, March 6 at 12 PM Central Time (CT) to open the action, followed by the No. 2 and No. 7 seeds at 2:15 PM CT. The third and fourth quarterfinals take place Friday, March 7 at the same times, first between the 4- and 5-seeded teams before the third and sixth-seeds face off in the nightcap.
 
Semifinals will take place at 12 and 2:15 on Saturday, March 8, with the four quarterfinal winners battling it out for a spot in the Championship match on Sunday, March 9 at 1 PM.
 
The GLVC Champion will earn the Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
