Peacocks Take on Three Double Headers in Home Opening Week

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL… Upper Iowa will play three consecutive double headers at the Eischeid Softball Complex. The Peacocks match-up with Lewis on Tuesday, Mar. 18, Rockhurst on Saturday, Mar. 22 and William Jewell on Sunday, Mar. 34. All three double headers will take place at 12 and 2 p.m.

GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK… Senior Tristin Doster garnered the GLVC Softball Player of the Week Award as she recorded a .615 batting average while hitting 8-13 at the plate over the course of four games. She scored four runs, while also hitting eight RBIs, two double and two home runs. Doster recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all four games, while dominating in both of the Peacocks wins. She hit 2-2 with two runs and a home run against Truman State, and followed that up by going 3-4 with one run, one double and three RBIs over Quincy. Doster has posted a .338 batting average on the season with 23 hits and ten runs, which all rank second on the squad. She leads the Peacocks in nearly every other hitting category with team-highs of five doubles, two triples, five home runs and 22 RBIs.
 
SHAFER'S SUCCESS… Junior Serah Shafer has thrived in her lead-off role as she has scored at least one run in all six of Upper Iowa's GLVC games this season. She hit 2-5 with two runs and a homer in game two against Truman State, and put together another two-run performance in the second match with Quincy. Shafer has recorded team-bests with a .386 average at the plate and 20 runs on 32 hits. She has added 14 stolen bases on 16 attempts which ranks fifth overall in the GLVC.
 
HIGH PERFORMING PITCHER… Junior Sara Reid has continued to make an impact in her first season with the Peacocks as she recorded two complete game victories on the mound against TSU and Quincy. She struck out four batters in both games, increasing her total to 45 strikeouts on the season, including a ten-strikeout performance against St. Cloud State. Reid has recorded a team-leading 3.59 ERA while posting a record of 6-3 with eight complete games.
 
FACEOFF WITH THE FLYERS… Lewis has faired the best of Upper Iowa's upcoming opponents as they have gone 17-10 on the year with a 3-0 GLVC record. They are currently on a three-game win streak and they have outscored their GLVC competition 20-1. Senior Delaney Garden has posted a 9-4 record on the mound with 105 strikeouts in 81 innings pitched. She leads the GLVC with a 1.38 ERA as well as a .176 batting average against. Junior Allie Wondrasek has recorded a 7-3 mark with 72 strikeouts in 83 innings. She ranks second in the GLVC with a 1.60 ERA and she has allowed a .220 batting average against. At the plate, senior Delaney Garden has recorded a .435 batting average with 40 hits and 30 runs. She has added four doubles and three triples, while going 12-12 in stolen base attempts.
 
HIGHLIGHTING THE HAWKS… Rockhurst has recorded a mark of 7-13 on the year while going 4-4 against GLVC competition. Freshman pitcher Riley Braden leads the team with a 3.41 ERA while allowing a .226 batting average against. She has posted a 2-1 record while striking out 22 batters in 24 innings. Junior Eva Fulk has recorded a team-best .317 batting average with 19 hits and 12 runs. She has hit four doubles and one triple, while stealing 15 bases in 17 attempts.
 
CONFRONTING THE CARDINALS… William Jewell sits at 16-14 on the season with a 3-5 record in the GLVC. Senior Sydney Parra has accounted for half of the team's wins as she has posted an 8-3 record on the mound. She ranks fourth in the conference with a 2.16 ERA and has allowed a .257 batting average against with 32 strikeouts in 77 innings. Junior Amanda Chung leads the team with a .384 batting average with 33 hits and 19 runs. She has hit 11 doubles which ranks fourth in the GLVC and has added two home runs and 18 RBIs.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks will hit the road for a pair of double headers. UIU takes on Drury on Saturday, Mar. 29 and Southwest Baptist, Sunday, Mar. 30 with games being held at 12 and 2 p.m. on both days.
