CASEYVILLE, Ill. - The Peacock men's golf team finished the fall campaign in sixth place at McKendree's Bearcat Dual Gender on Tuesday. Graduate Owen Davison led the Peacocks, tying for 16th with a score of 226 (+10) in the three-round tournament.
The Peacocks shot rounds of 297 (+9), 307 (+19) and 304 (+18) to finish with a total of 908 (+44). UIU finished the first round in second place, behind Illinois-Springfield at 295 (+7). Overall, the Peacocks ended the tournament four strokes ahead of McKendree in seventh and three strokes behind Kentucky Wesleyan in fifth.
Davison shot rounds of 75 (+3), 77 (+5) and 74 (+2). He totaled five birdies and an eagle in the third round. He also had an eagle in the first round, making him one of three players at the tournament with two eagles. The graduate totaled nine birdies, tying for the ninth most by any golfer.
Joseph Grau tied for 22nd with a score of 229 (+13) after rounds of 79 (+7), 75 (+3) and 75 (+3). He led the team in pars with 30 while also adding six birdies and an eagle. Grau was one under par in his final six holes on Tuesday.
Christian Burkhart and Ethan Cahalan tied for 26th at 230 (+14). Burkhart shot rounds of 72 (E), 78 (+6) and 80 (+8). His first round was the lowest by any UIU golfer at the tournament, totaling four birdies in the round. Davison, Grau and Burkhart all tied for the third-best score on par fives at the tournament, shooting five under par on them.
Cahalan shot 74 (+2), 77 (+5) and 79 (+7). He totaled nine birdies, tying Davison for the team lead and ninth overall in the tournament. The 26th-place finish is his best of the season.
William Benedict rounded out the top five in 35th with a score of 233 (+17). He shot 76 (+4), 81 (+9) and 76 (+4) in the three rounds. Benedict had the second-most pars on the team with 29.
Quincy (Ill.) won the tournament with a team total of 891 (+27). The Hawks shot 308 (+20) in the first round, but rebounded with a 286 (-2) in round two. That 286 (-2) was the lowest team round of the tournament.
Illinois-Springfield came in second with a total of 893 (+29), and Rockhurst (Mo.) placed third with a total of 896 (+32). Quincy's Griffin Taylor won the tournament, shooting 229 (+3) with a 67 (-5) in round two.
