Peacocks to close out season against Miners and Saints


THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL… Upper Iowa will close out the regular season with road double headers against the Missouri S&T Miners and the Maryville Saints. The Peacocks meet the Miners on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 12 and 2 p.m. before taking on the Saints the following day at the same time.

REGULAR SEASON RECAP… The Peacocks have put together a 16-32 record, going 6-16 in the GLVC. During the month of April, UIU has posted a record of 5-9, where they won consecutive home games against William Jewell and Quincy. Ari Charles has led the Peacocks with a .331 batting average and she leads the Peacocks with 54 hits and 25 runs. Charles has hit a school record nine triples on the year, which is three more than anyone else in the GLVC. Laila Pelds has posted a .315 average at the plate and she leads the Peacocks with five home runs. She has put together two games where she hit 4-4 at the plate and she ranks in the top ten in the conference with 33 RBIs. Serah Shafer ranks second on the team with 24 runs on 48 hits and she has hit a .299 average at the plate. Shafer has stolen 16 bases on 19 attempts, which ranks ninth in the GLVC. Abby Buckman is coming off a complete game vs. Lewis, where she allowed one run while striking out six batters. She leads the Peacocks with a 4.25 ERA and she recorded consecutive saves at home against Quincy.

MATCH-UP WITH MISSOURI S&T…
The Miners are the #5-seed in the GLVC with a 22-26 overall record while going 12-10 in conference play. Junior Sydney Anderson leads the team with a .394 batting average which ranks sixth in the GLVC. She has hit a team-high 33 RBIs and a conference-leading 18 doubles on the year. Senior Bryn Wooldridge has added a .350 average at the plate with 49 hits and 24 runs. Wooldridge has also appeared in 22 games on the mound where she has recorded a 12-10 record while allowing a .271 batting average against. She has struck out a team-high 133 batters while posting a 4.22 ERA. Fifth year Charlye Rowland has gone 9-9 on the mound and she has recorded a team-best 3.29 ERA.
 
MEETING WITH MARYVILLE… The Saints have posted nearly an identical overall record as the Miners, going 21-26. They currently sit at the #8-seed in the GLVC with an 11-11 conference mark, and have won three of their past four games. Junior Emily Corona has hit a .339 average at the plate and she leads the team with 29 runs. On the season, she has hit nine doubles, four triples and three home runs. Junior Isabella Garcia has recorded team highs with a .378 batting average with 21 RBIs and she has added five homers. Senior Chayse Ramey has been the Saints go-to pitcher all season, putting together a 15-13 record. Ramey has allowed a .245 batting average against with a 2.92 ERA and she has added 122 strikeouts on the year.
