Peacocks Seek Success on Senior Day Weekend

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL… Upper Iowa will be playing their final two home games of the regular season against the Indianapolis Greyhounds and the Lewis Flyers. The Peacocks matchup with UIndy on Friday, Apr. 19 at 12 and 2 p.m. and their Senior Day game will be held at the same time on Sunday, Apr. 21 vs. Lewis where the Peacocks will honor their seven seniors: Ari Charles, Laila Pelds, Rae VanMilligan, Hannah Bridgewater, Abby Buckman, Rylee McGonigle and Alli Schaffer.

AROUND THE GLVC… The Peacocks are currently the #12 seed in the GLVC with a 16-28 overall record while going 6-12 in the GLVC. The Peacocks are four games back from the conference tournament as #8-seed Maryville has a record of 10-10 in conference play.
 
MAKING AN IMPACT… The Peacocks have recorded 12 triples on the year as a team, with a school record nine being hit by Ari Charles. She has served as the Peacocks leadoff hitter in every game of the year, leading the team with a .349 batting average, 53 hits and 25 runs. Charles has scored multiple runs five times this season and has added two home runs. During the Peacocks last homestand, Laila Pelds hit 4-4 with two runs and at least two RBIs in two different games. She has recorded a .321 average at the plate, and she leads the Peacocks with five home runs. On the mound, Delaney Vetter has struck out 125 batters, which includes four double-digit strikeout performances. She struck out a season-high 14 batters against Glenville State and recorded ten strikeouts during the Peacocks last homestand against Rockhurst. Abby Buckman has added another 52 strikeouts on the year, and she leads UIU with a 3.91 ERA and a 5-5 record. She recorded two saves the last time Upper Iowa played in Fayette and she pitched a season-high 11 strikeouts against Thomas More.

TOP-RANKED GREYHOUNDS… UIndy has put together a dominant season, going 38-3 overall with a 17-1 conference record. The Greyhounds are currently on a nine-game winning streak, and they are the #1-seed in the GLVC. Fifth year Emily O'Connor leads the team with a .421 batting average and 48 runs. She has hit a GLVC-leading 15 home runs on the year, and she also ranks first in the conference with 55 RBIs. The Greyhounds have scored the most runs as a team in the GLVC and five players rank in the top ten for most runs on the year. Senior Kenzee Smith has posted a record of 21-1 on the mound, striking out 154 batters in 137 innings. She has recorded a conference-best 0.20 ERA and has allowed only four earned runs all year.
 
SECOND-PLACE FLYERS… Lewis trails only UIndy in the conference standings with a 29-10 overall record and a 14-4 conference mark. All three pitchers have posted under a 1.45 ERA, led by junior Delaney Garden with a 1.39 ERA. She leads the Flyers with 151 strikeouts in 136 innings and has gone 13-6 on the mound. At the plate, Garden has also recorded team-highs with 50 hits and 20 runs. She has hit a .345 average and has stolen 14 bases on the year. Senior Jalyn Powell and sophomore Anna Frafjord have each scored 19 runs with Powell hitting six home runs and Frafjord leading the team with seven.
 
MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks will close out the regular season on the road with a pair of double headers. UIU takes on Missouri S&T on Saturday, Apr. 27, and Maryville the following day with both games set to begin at 12 and 2 p.m.
