Box Score 2 The Peacocks have move to 11-23 (1-7 GLVC) on the season as the Southwest Baptist Bearcats were able to win a pair of double headers on their home field.
Game One
Southwest Baptist jumped out to an early lead, as they scored five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left field line.
Kylie Doty responded with a home run at the top of the second, as she launched her first hit of the day over the center field wall.
Reagan Church was walked, and she advanced to second on a single to center field by
Addyson Alber. With two outs,
Ari Charles hit a double out to right center field, bringing Church home. With the bases loaded, Alber scored on a
Rae VanMilligan walk, which cut the lead to two halfway through the second.
The Bearcats recorded consecutive singles down the left side, and a two RBI single up the middle helped push their lead to 8-3. Charles and
Serah Shafer each singled to third base at the top of the fourth, and VanMilligan reached first on a fielder's choice to shortstop. Shafer successfully stole third base, and she scored on a single to right field by
Laila Pelds.
Taylor Sedam added an RBI single through the left side, which made it an 8-5 game.
SBU was able to load the bases at the bottom of the fourth, and they scored on a walk with two outs in the inning. Church hit a single out to center field to start the fifth, and Alber posted her second hit of the day on a single down the left side. Charles advanced both runners into scoring position on a grounder to first, and Shafer hit an RBI single to the shortstop, which gave Church her second run of the day.
Southwest Baptist added two more runs at the bottom of the fifth, to ice the game by a score of 11-6.
Delaney Vetter pitched four innings for the Peacocks, striking out five batters. Alber and Shafer led the way on the offensive end with three hits in four at bats, and Church scored a team-high two runs in game one.
Game Two
VanMilligan recorded the first hit of game two with a single to third base, before she proceeded to steal second. Pelds added a single down the right side and VanMilligan was able to capitalize on an error at first base as she scored on the play.
SBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, before scoring consecutive runs on grounds outs at first base. They ended the inning with a 3-1 lead, on an RBI double out to left field and improved their lead to three on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.
With the Peacocks down at the top of the seventh,
Elyse Rios was able to reach first on an error with one out.
Hannah Bridgewater hit a double out to left center field, which put two runners in scoring position for UIU. With two outs and the game on the line, Charles showed off her clutch gene as she hit a double out to left center field, which made it a 3-4 game as Bridgewater and Rios scored on the play. Shafer followed this up with a single to the pitcher, but the SBU defense was able to force a line out at shortstop to barely escape with a win.
The Peacocks will play in their first home games of the season, as they host three double headers next week which will all be at 12 and 2 p.m. UIU takes on William Jewell on Saturday, Apr. 6, Rockhurst, Sunday, Apr. 7 and Quincy on Tuesday, Apr. 9.
