Box Score 2 Upper Iowa dropped two games against the Drury Panthers by a score of 5-1 in game one and 3-2 over the course of ten innings in game two.
Game One
Delaney Vetter opened the game by striking out the first two batters she faced. With two outs, Drury was able to hit a single down the third base line and they scored their first run of the game on a single to center field. The Panthers were able to take advantage on an infield error the following at bat, where they took a 2-0 lead before Vetter struck out her third batter to end the first inning. Vetter pitched two more strikeouts over the next two innings, but the Panthers were able to extend their lead to four on a two RBI single to right field.
Serah Shafer began the fourth inning by reaching first on an error and she advanced to second on a single to left field by
Rae VanMilligan. With two outs,
Taylor Sedam hit a single out to center field which led to Shafer scoring UIU's first run of the day.
Vetter struck out two more batters in the bottom of the fifth, and she struck out eight batters on the day. Drury added their final run on a single to left field, which secured a 5-1 victory in game one.
Game Two
Reagan Church recorded the Peacocks first hit of game two on a single to left field atop the second inning. Drury opened the bottom of the inning with a single to shortstop and followed that up by scoring their first run of the game on an RBI single to center field. VanMilligan and
Elliott Pomeroy each added singles to the outfield in the third and fourth innings.
Shafer hit a single to left field at the top of the fifth and she tied the game at one run apiece on a Sedam single to center field. The Panthers responded with a solo home run, to regain their one run lead. Church posted her second hit of the day in the sixth inning on a single to center field. Pomeroy also added her second hit on a single to center field, which advanced pinch runner
Mikayla Brown to third base. With the bases load, VanMilligan's keen eye resulted in a walk which tied the game at 2-2.
Abby Buckman began to dominate on the mound, as she struck out two batters in the sixth inning, and another two in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. At the top of the ninth, the Peacocks were able to load the bases highlighted by
Kylie Doty reaching first on a fielder's choice, and Church hitting a single down the third base line for her third hit of the game. With two outs, the Panthers forced a ground out to the pitcher, and Buckman responded by forcing three quick pop outs to end the ninth.
The Panthers hit three consecutive singles to start the tenth inning and they scored the game winning run on a single to third base, ending the game with a score of 3-2.
The Peacocks will be back in action with a double header tomorrow as they take on Southwest Baptist at 12 and 2 p.m.
