Box Score 2 Upper Iowa split the series against Illinois Springfield as they picked up a 5-3 victory in game one before the Prairie Stars took game two by a score of 5-2.
Game One
Rae VanMilligan recorded the first hit of the game on a single to left field, and she was able to advance to second before UIS ended the inning.
Delaney Vetter forced three quick outs at the top of the second, and she allowed only one hit throughout the first three innings.
Laila Pelds singled to right field at the bottom of the fourth, before the Peacocks subbed in
Mikayla Brown to pinch run.
Kylie Doty launched a triple out to right field, bringing Brown home to give the Peacocks their first run of the day.
Addyson Alber added an RBI single to right field, which gave UIU a 2-0 lead.
Ari Charles opened the bottom of the fifth with a single to third base and she advanced to second on a single down the right side by
Serah Shafer. Both runners advanced to second and third and an error by the Prairie Stars led to Charles scoring the Peacocks third run of the game. Alber recorded her second single of the game in the sixth and
Reagan Church followed-up her hit with a single that advanced Alber to third. Church stole second and a pop fly to right field by Charles brought Alber home. Shafer hit an RBI single out to center field, where Church scored on the play to extend the Peacocks lead to five.
The Prairie Stars hit a single to third base at the top of the seventh, and a fielder's choice at second base later in the inning left them with runners at first and third. With two outs, UIS hit a two RBI double out to right field, and they added a third run on a single up the middle. Vetter put an end to Illinois Springfield's comeback attempt as she forced a ground out to second base to secure a 5-3 victory. She struck out two batters on the day and allowed six hits while pitching a complete game.
Game Two
Rylee McGonigle picked up three quick outs to start the game, striking out the final better of the first inning. Charles hit her school record-tying, seventh triple of the season in her first at bat of game two, and she would give the Peacocks an early lead on a single to center field by Shafer. Pelds added a single to right field and Doty was walked to load the bases. With two outs on the board, Shafer scored on a passed ball, to make it a 2-0 game.
UIS opened the third with a single up the middle and they would later load the bases on a single to second base. They cut the lead to one on a ground out to third base, before taking a 3-2 lead as they capitalized on an error. Illinois Springfield pushed their lead to three in the bottom of the fifth, as they hit a two RBI single out to center field.
Pelds, Shafer,
Taylor Sedam, and VanMilligan each hit singles throughout the rest of the game, but the Peacocks were unable to cut into the lead as UIS walked away with a 5-2 win to split the series.
The Peacocks will travel to Missouri for a pair of double headers. UIU takes on Drury on Friday, Mar. 29, and Southwest Baptist the following day with both matchups starting at 12 and 2 p.m.
