Men’s Basketball Tabbed Fifth in GLVC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Upper Iowa men's basketball was voted fifth and received two first-place votes in the 15-team pool of competitors in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Truman State University was selected in the preseason coaches' poll to win the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men's basketball championship. The preseason poll is determined by the league's head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own team per GLVC Bylaws

Peacock men's basketball was voted eighth in last year's preseason poll but exceeded the preseason ranking as they finished second in the regular season standings with a 15-5 mark in the league. The program clinched an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, where they defeated #2-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan 82-72 in round one before falling to Lake Superior State 88-80 in the Round of 32.

While the team graduated the 2023-24 GLVC Player of the Year and one of the most decorated players in program history in UIU's all-time leading scorer, Jake Hilmer, they bring back a gob of talent, including four starters and fresh faces to complement the returners. Noah King was a First Team All-GLVC selection who ranked fifth in the conference in scoring last season with 17.4 PPG. In league play, King averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 45.2% from the floor, 74.5% from the foul line and 33.3% from long distance.

Kyle Hrncir was tabbed on the GLVC All-Defense and All-Freshman Team last season. Against conference competition, the starting forward hauled in a team-high 6.8 rebounds (8th in GLVC) per game while grabbing 39 steals (2.0 per game), good for fourth in the league. He contributed 9.6 points per game while shooting 56.7% from the field.

Nick Reid was slotted 14th in the GLVC in scoring with 14.3 points per game. On the season, Reid recorded shooting splits of 137-295 (46.4%) from the floor, 56-144 (38.9%) from three, and 126-143 (88.1%) from the free throw line. He hauled in a team-high 222 rebounds (6.9 RPG), with 50 coming on the offensive end, while adding 42 assists (1.3 APG), 17 steals and blocking a team-high 32 shots.

Caleb Delzell started all 32 games last season, scoring 9.3 PPG and shooting 39.2 % (8th in GLVC) from long distance. He recorded 5.8 rebounds per game and added 35 assists and 22 steals while rejecting 31 shots.

Brooks McKowen is headed into his 12th season at the helm of the UIU men's basketball program. He is joined by his assistants Joel Hanson and Danny Tabaska.

Men's basketball tips off their season Nov. 9-10 in Springfield, Ill. against UW Parkside and Roosevelt University. The Peacocks see their first action at home Nov. 23-24 for the Peacock Classic, facing Concordia, St. Paul and Southwest Minnesota State.
