Box Score 2 Upper Iowa began their non-conference schedule with a double header at Missouri Western, where they fell 10-2 in game one and 11-0 in game two. The Peacocks dropped to 7-9 on the season and the Griffons improved to 18-5. UIU is back in action on Wednesday, March 22 when they host Nebrasksa Kearney for a double header at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Peacocks got to work early as they made their way onto the scoreboard in the first inning after
Laila Pelds recorded a single,
Rae VanMilligan was walked and
Kylie Doty drove in a runner by cracking the ball over the right fielder. Two of Upper Iowa's four hits in the contest were executed in the first inning.
UIU's 1-0 lead did not last long as Missouri Western scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Their runs were fueled by a double from their lead-off hitter and their third batter reaching base on error, which scored their first run. A single to center field on the very next play sent another runner across the plate, giving the Griffons the 2-1 lead at the conclusion of the first inning.Â
The Peacocks tied up the game 2-2 in the second inning as they scored an additional run. The inning started off with a walk from
Taylor Sedam and a single to center field from Hannah Bridegwater, which put Sedam in scoring position on third. A fielder's choice play from Charles' at bat brought Sedam home, giving UIU their last run of the contest.
Missouri Western scored an additional two runs in the fourth, extending their lead to 4-2. They scored three innings in the fourth inning to give them the 7-4 advantage. A run in the eighth inning and two in the sixth gave them the 10-2 lead, which brought the game to a close.Â
Vetter pitched 3.2 innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs. Buckman came into the game to relieve her, throwing 1.1 innings as she allowed five hits and three runs.
The Griffons accumulated 14 hits in game one in their 10-2 defeat over the Peacocks.Â
Upper Iowa gathered four total hits in the game.

Missouri Western's strong offensive output helped them dominate in the second game as they scored 11 runs on 11 hits in the contest.
The Griffons scored one run in the first inning, one in the second, two runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth inning to conclude the game in the fifth inning with the 11-0 victory.Â
Ari Charles recorded the only hit for the Peacocks in the first inning.
Rylee McGonigle toed the rubber for Upper Iowa as she surrendered seven runs on nine hits over a total of three innings. She struck out two and walked one.
Abby Breuer threw one inning of relief.Â
Missouri Western's Harley Pruetting executed the shutout as she gave up zero runs on one hit over five innings. She struck out seven and did not walk a single batter during her time on the mound.Â
