The No. 10 Peacock wrestling team lost a hard-fought dual in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on Senior Day in Fayette. Upper Iowa came out on the wrong side of a 23-17 decision with the No. 7 Rangers of the University of Wisconsin Parkside. UWP claimed six wins including a fall, a tech fall and two overtime decisions to improve to 7-0 in the NSIC and overall. UIU falls to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
No. 5 Shane Corrigan opened the dual with a 15-0 technical fall (5:21) at 125 pounds, but UIU's
Kaden Anderlik was quick to answer for the Peacocks. Anderlik fell behind 6-0 to Troy Dolphin, but scored a reversal at the end of the first period and didn't look back. Anderlik notched a pair of four-point nearfalls on his way to a 15-6 major decision.
No. 10 Cayden Henschel scored five takedowns in his 11-5 decision over No. 4
Tate Murty at 141 pounds and No. 6 Jalen Spuhler recorded a fall (4:20) at 149 pounds to push the Rangers lead to ten points, 14-4.
Parkside kept hold of the momentum with a pair of sudden victory decisions at 157 and 165 pounds.
Eric Faught and No. 12 Ben Durocher went to the overtime period tied at 1-1. Durocher grabbed the winning takedown to post a 3-1 win in the sudden victory period. In the featured match of the night, both No. 1 Shane Gantz and No. 2
Chase Luensman gave the battle everything they had. Luensman scored a second-period takedown, but Gantz rallied with one of his own in the third. In sudden victory, Gantz came out of a scramble with position and won 6-4. The two narrow defeats widened the gap as the Rangers led 20-4.
Upper Iowa won three of the final four matches thanks to wins by
Cael Meyer at 174 pounds, No. 8
Dalton Hahn at 197 pounds and
Jordan Baumler at heavyweight. Meyer scored on four takedowns to notch an 11-3 major. Hahn registered his 8-2 win highlighted by a reversal and two takedowns, while Baumler ended the dual with a win by fall just five seconds before the final horn.
No. 9 Reece Worachek picked up the Rangers with a win at 184 pounds over
Cameron Lopez after putting three takedowns on the scoreboard.
Upper Iowa has one regular season dual left on their schedule. The Peacocks will head to Mankato, Minn. to face the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Feb. 17 to put the wraps on the dual season. UIU will then send 10 wrestlers to Aberdeen, S.D. for the NCAA Super Region V Championships on Feb. 25. Upper Iowa will host the NCAA Division II National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the Alliant PowerHouse on Mar. 10-11.
