The Upper Iowa men's bowling team made the short trip to Cedar Rapids this weekend to compete in the Kohawk Invite, hosted by Coe College. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams bowled at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.
Â
Nineteen varsity teams and 10 JV teams participated in the event. The tournament's format consisted of five traditional team games on Saturday followed by four sets of team Baker games on Sunday. The top four teams on each side would advance to bracket play to determine a winner.
Â
The UIU varsity team finished in 10th place, knocking over a total of 7,505 pins over the course of the two days. The JV team finished in ninth place, registering a total of 7,155 pins.
Â
On Saturday, the Peacocks were led on the varsity side by
Jonah Martin, who finished with a total of 978 pins in five games and a high game of 237. He was followed by
Kyle Moeller with a score of 958 pins in five games and
Tyler Renner, who finished with a total of 944 pins in five games.
Â
On the JV side,
Brandon Bell paced UIU with a total of 973 pins in five games and a high game of 256.

Â
On Sunday, the UIU varsity team averaged nearly 737 pins per Baker set while the JV team averaged 668 pins.
Â
"Each team got off to a slow start but managed to finish strong to end the tournament. There are positives to take away, but also plenty of room to grow and become stronger for our next competition," said Head Coach
Nichole DePaul.
Â
Up next, the Peacocks will stay close to home for the second consecutive week as they compete in the Cedar Valley Open in Waterloo, Iowa. The event, hosted by Hawkeye Community College, is scheduled to begin on Saturday February 11.
