The Upper Iowa men's bowling team opened their busy schedule for the week on Sunday at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational. The event was held at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Â
Forty-seven teams competed in this event across two days. The tournament's format consisted of six traditional team games on Sunday followed by three more qualifying games on Monday. The top 16 teams would move on to compete in bracket play consisting of best out of five team Baker matches.
The Peacocks finished in 28th place, knocking over a total of 8,231 pins across the two days. As a team, they knocked over 5,418 pins on day one and 2,813 pins on day two.
Â
On Sunday, UIU were led by
Kyle Moeller, who finished with a total of 1,225 pins in six games, including a high game of 268. He was followed by
Jonah Martin with a total of 832 pins in five games and
Demitri Ferneau, who knocked over a total of 727 pins in four games.
Â
On Monday, Martin paced Upper Iowa by recording scores of over 200 pins in each of his three games for a total of 630. He was followed by
Spencer James, who tallied a high game of 251 on his way to a three-game total of 619 pins, and
Eric Roberts, who finished with a total of 604 pins in three games and a high game of 215.
Â
"For many on the team, this was their first experience on the big stage inside an arena setting for bowling," said Head Coach
Nichole DePaul. "We capitalized on lucky breaks throughout the event in order to finish in the middle of the pack. I asked them to give me everything they had for the last game, and they delivered our best single game total across the two days. We'll look to use that momentum as we prepare for our next event."
Â
Up next, the Peacocks will remain in Vegas and return to the lanes tomorrow morning for the first day of the Collegiate Shoot-Out. The event will also take place at the South Point Bowling Plaza and feature action from December 20-21.
