Upper Iowa placed fifth at the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships in Aberdeen, S.D. fueled by six wrestlers that finished in the top five in their respective weight classes. The Peacocks scored 80 points in the regional championship and qualified four individuals for the NCAA Division II Championships in two weeks.
St. Cloud State claimed the team title with 130.5 points, while Augustana (106), Wisconsin-Parkside (97.5) and UMary (89) rounded out the top five in the final team standings.

Chase Luensman (165) all earned a berth to the NCAA Championships thanks to their success on the mat on Saturday. Bye placed second at 184 pounds, while Murty, Faught and Luensman all won their third place matches to secure their bid to the national tournament and extend their seasons.
Bye went 3-1 on the afternoon posting a 3-2 decision over Sam Kruger of Northern State, a 3-1 win in sudden victory thanks to a takedown of No. 8 Wyatt Lidberg of UMary and a 5-1 victory over Cayden White of Minot State in the semifinals. Bye's only loss on the day came to Parkside's No. 7 Reece Worachek in a 3-2 decision for the region title.
Murty was also 3-1, but his loss came in the championship semis after grabbing a fall (4:56) in his opening match over Kolton Roth of Northern State. The Fountain City, Wis. native won an 8-0 major decision in the consolation semis and then won his third-place match by decision 5-2 over No. 11 Alyeus Craig of St. Cloud State. The win sends Murty to his third straight NCAA Championship.
Eric Faught matched with a 3-1 record as well winning 10-4 in his opening match over Braydon Huber of UMary, but came out on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision to Devin Bahr of Northern State. Faught bounced back with a controlled 8-1 decision over Sean Howk of Southwest Minnesota State and then powered his way to Cedar Rapids and the NCAA Championships with a sudden victory over No. 11 Ben Durocher of Parkside in the third-place match. The win secured Faught's second trip to the NCAA Championships.
Luensman posted a team-high four wins on his ledger on Saturday. The Monticello, Iowa product opened his day with a dominating 14-0 major, but lost in the quarterfinals to Riley Noble of UMary by a 17-10 score. Luensman refocused and won a pair of decisions, 4-3 and 6-1, to reach the third-place match. Luensman punched his third ticket to the NCAA Championships with a 5-2 decision over Kole Marko of Minnesota State in his final bout of the day.
Both
Dalton Hahn (197) and
Zach Ryg (285) won their final matches of the day, but came up just shy of earning a spot at the NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids in two weeks. Hahn placed fifth with a 2-2 record, his wins came by major decision (15-2) and fall (2:34). The fall came in Hahn's final collegiate match as he closed out the year with a 12-5 record. Ryg went 4-2 on the day posting three shutout decisions and one fall (2:21) over Jacob Dykes of Southwest Minnesota State, but lost a pair of decisions by scores of 3-1 and 4-1 to come up short of his ultimate goal of returning to the NCAA Championships.
Anderlik was the final Peacock to place at the regional event. The Peacock 133-pounder went 2-3 to place sixth. His two wins came by decision.
The four national qualifiers will continue to train and prepare for the NCAA Division II Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Mar. 10-11. Upper Iowa University is hosting the championships this year at the Alliant Energy Power House.
