The National Wrestling Coaches Association, or NWCA, announced the 2023 class of inductees to the Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame. Upper Iowa's Trevor Franklin is one of seven former NCAA Division II standouts to earn the prestigious honor.

The class includes Franklin, Arsenia Barksdale of Adams State University, Thad Benton of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Jason Bingaman from Lake Superior State University, Phil Johns of the University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Joe Kemmerer from Kutztown University and Kirk Myers from the University of Northern Iowa. Trevor FranklinTrevor Franklin began his storied career on the varsity mat for Upper Iowa during the 2008-09 season. The South New Berlin, N.Y. native wrestled for the Peacocks as a redshirt freshman that season and then returned for three straight seasons from 2010-2013 earning a career record of 96-13 including a 9-4 mark in his 13 NCAA Division II Championship matches.

Franklin earned three NCAA Regional titles and one runner-up finish to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships four times. The Unadilla Valley High School graduate won two NCAA Division II Championship titles at 125 pounds in 2010-11 and 133 pounds in 2011-12. Following the second straight title and an undefeated 28-0 season, Franklin was named the NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Between his redshirt sophomore and redshirt junior seasons, Franklin tallied a record of 55-2 including 44 straight wins during the two seasons. During his redshirt junior season, he was only taken down twice in his 28 matches allowing just four offensive points to his opponents.

With his two NCAA Division II Championships, Franklin earned two NCAA All-American honors and was a member of the All-Northern Sun Conference Team following all four of his seasons. After a 27-4 season as a redshirt freshman, Franklin was selected to the All-NSIC Second Team and was named to the Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team. Over his three final seasons in a Peacock singlet, he earned a place on the All-NSIC First Team. Franklin was a dominant force in duals for UIU losing only two bouts in dual competition in his entire career; both came in NSIC matches.

Franklin becomes the second Peacock wrestler to be inducted into the Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame. Travis Eggers was selected to the highest honor as part of the class of 2018. Tyrone Fambro (2007) and Former Head UIU Wrestling Coach Mike McCready (1998) were inducted into the NWCA Division III Hall of Fame previously.

The Jim Koch Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be inducted at the NWCA National Convention July 28, 2022 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina.
