The Upper Iowa women's golf team hit the links this week at the Watkins Invitational. The event, hosted by Winona State University at the Jewel Golf Club, consisted of five competing teams. The Peacocks finished in fourth place, having improved upon their first-round score by 30 strokes to record a final score of 750 (+174).
Winona State's first team finished with the top score at 646 (+70) thanks to rounds of 330 and 316. They were followed by the University of Mary with a score of 676 and the Winona State second team, who finished with a score of 701.
Winona's Carly Moon took home medalist honors by finishing with a score of 153 (+9) after rounds of 77 and 76. Mary's Carrie Carmichael finished in second with a score of 158 (+14).
Katie Schweers posted her second top-10 finish of the season after recording rounds of 83 and 85 for a score of 166 (+22), good enough to finish in sixth. She was followed closely by
Ryah Bergeron, who finished in 18th place with a score of 190 (+46).
Brynn Bonefas finished in a tie for 19th place with a total score of 191 (+47).
Delaney Martin recorded a final score of 203 (+59) to finish in 24th, while Elizabeth Ellis finished the weekend in 27th place with a score of 231 (+87). Competing as an individual,
Jamie Adams improved upon her first-round score by 27 strokes to finish in 28th place with a score of 265 (+121).
Schweers finished third among all competitors in Par 4 scoring with a 4.50 stroke average (+10). She also finished tied for fourth with 16 pars and was the only competitor to record an eagle.
"Katie continues to lead the team on the course with her scoring," said Head Coach
Mike Lewis. "Her sixth-place finish was good to see. As a team, we improved by 30 shots in round two and continue to learn a lot. I'm excited to see their progress as we roll into our final tournament of the fall season next week."
Up next, the Peacocks will take part in the Flyer Invitational, hosted by Lewis University, beginning on October 3 for their final event of the fall season.
