The Upper Iowa men's bowling team opened their 2022-23 season this past weekend at the Golden Eagle Invite. The event was hosted by Rock Valley College and took place at Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Illinois.

Nineteen varsity teams participated in this weekend's competition. The tournament's format consisted of five traditional team games on Saturday followed by five sets of team Baker games on Sunday.

The Peacocks finished in 10th place with a final total of 8,054 pins. UIU found themselves in 12th place after the first day having knocked over 4,371 pins in the individual games before moving up two spots on Sunday after the Baker games.

Individually,
Kyle Moeller finished as UIU's top bowler on Saturday with a total of 822 pins in five games. He was followed by
Spencer James with a total of 721 pins in four games and
Eric Roberts with a total of 717 pins in four games.
Brandon Bell,
Jonah Martin, Demitri Ferneau,
Cody Lawrence, and
Antonio Garrido rounded out contributions to the team's score.

On Sunday, UIU averaged around 733 pins per Baker set with a high total of 856 in set three.

"This weekend was an excellent experience for our team to start the season," said Head Coach
Nichole DePaul. "Overall, we took risks and made some good ball choices to help us improve from Saturday to Sunday. We look forward to what's in store for us this season."

Up next, the Peacocks will compete in their first USBC Tier I event of the season beginning on October 1st at the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
