After nearly two weeks off, the Upper Iowa men's bowling team returned to the lanes this weekend at the Leatherneck Classic. The event took place at Big River Bowl in Davenport, Iowa.Â
Â
Forty-five varsity teams from across the Midwest competed over the course of two days. The tournament's format consisted of six traditional team games on Saturday followed by four sets of team Baker games on Sunday.
Â
UIU finished in 35th place, knocking over a total of 8,171 pins across the two days. The Peacocks knocked over 5,325 pins during the traditional games and 2,846 pins during the team Baker games.
Â
On Saturday, UIU were led by
Jonah Martin, who finished with a total of 1,128 pins in six games. He was followed by
Kyle Moeller with 959 pins in five games and
Brandon Bell with 750 pins in four games, including a high game of 232.
Â
On Sunday, the Peacocks were able to move up an additional two spots in the standings. The team averaged nearly 712 pins per Baker set with a high mark of 732 in set four.
Â
"We did the best we could this weekend, but with execution issues and a lot of missed opportunities for spares, it put us in a position where we needed every shot. We will regroup to prepare for our next Tier I event," said Head Coach
Nichole DePaul.
Â
Up next, UIU will compete in the National Team Match Games in Fairview Heights, Illinois beginning on November 19.
