Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the spring season, the Upper Iowa Athletics Department is spending the next few months spotlighting many of our Peacock student-athletes whose spring seasons came to a premature end.
In today's virtual interview, Pete the Peacock gets to know UIU women's track & field thrower Brinn Grunder. Brinn, a 3x NSIC Champion, is a senior from Durant, Iowa who came to Fayette four years ago from Durant High School. She is majoring in health services administration.
PETE: How would you describe yourself in three words?
BRINN: Dedicated, compassionate, and selfless.
PETE: What made you want to be a collegiate student-athlete?
BRINN: My passion for track and field and the collegiate experience.
PETE: What have you learned about what it takes to be a student-athlete?
BRINN: Time management is essential to succeed and it's important to know that you're a student first and being an athlete is a privilege!
PETE: What is your favorite way to de-stress?
BRINN: Get a solid workout in!
PETE: What advice would you give to your 14-year old self?
BRINN: Work harder in high school and carry it into college!
PETE: What is something most people don't know about you?
BRINN: That I love the elderly or that I dislike birds!
PETE: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
BRINN: The small-town community and close relationships!
PETE: What is your favorite thing about Fayette?
BRINN: The family atmosphere!
PETE: How do you want to be remembered?
BRINN: As a person who worked hard in their studies and sports to get where I am!
PETE: What's the best thing that has happened to you in the last week?
BRINN: Getting to see the family throughout this pandemic!
PETE: What are the top three things on your bucket list?
BRINN: Visit Australia, see Niagara Falls, and do some missionary work in a foreign country.
PETE: What is your dream job if money wasn't a factor? Why?
BRINN: Build and run my very own senior facility!
PETE: What is your most memorable sports moment?
BRINN: My first collegiate conference win, junior year in shotput!
PETE: What fictional character (movie, TV show, book, cartoon, etc.) would you want to be for a day? Why?
BRINN: Elsa from Frozen, because her powers are incredible and she can sing!
PETE: Do you have any collections? If so, what?
BRINN: I used to collect rocks when I was younger.
PETE: Do you believe in aliens or ghosts? If yes, why?
BRINN: Ghosts are real and give me the creeps!
PETE: What is your dream vacation spot? Why? What would you want to do there?
BRINN: I think visiting Australia would be incredible, I'd love to hold a koala or see Steve Irwin's families' alligator place!
PETE: If you were president for a day, what would you change?
BRINN: One free day of doctor visits, whatever it may require.
PETE: What is your favorite restaurant in the world? What do you order?
BRINN: Cracker Barrel and I order the Haddock dinner!
PETE: What are three things you cannot live without? Why?
BRINN: My dog, my family, and chocolate!
PETE: Where or who do you get your inspiration from?
BRINN: In general, my parents but in regard to my career aspirations, my great-grandma.
PETE: If you could sing a duet with someone, who would it be? What song?
BRINN: Elvis Presley and we would sing "I can't help falling in love".
PETE: What was your first job?
BRINN: I was a hostess at the world's largest truck stop.
PETE: If you had a podcast, what would it be about?
BRINN: How to live your life to the fullest!
